I miss Johnny Cash. I watched a documentary on him last night. I learned a few things about him last night that I did know. For instance his first wife was black. I didn't even know it was legal in Southern states in those days. That took moral courage. Another thing was standing up to President Nixon and refusing to play a song, that in his opinion made fun of poor people. Cash was quite a guy and one that in my opinion they broke the mold on. I miss his music and him as a person.

Yeah, he kind of reminds me of music's version of Abraham Lincoln. I think he would like that comparison.

He was a very talented artist. He proposed to his wife here in the city in which I live during a concert.

@Juliaacv oh wow Now that you mention it, that may have been in the movie I Walk The Line. I can't say for sure though. The fans at the venue must have got a big kick out of the proposal..

I loved Johnny Cash too. It sounds crazy, but when my husband and I got together in 1988 we were confused about whether we could legally get married here or not. We were told this and that by several people. We ended up speaking to a judge who assured us that we could get legally married and he actually performed our wedding ceremony for us at the courthouse in Jackson in 1989. He was a lovely man.

I know for a fact that interracial marriages in Virginia were banned for a long time. I am not sure when they finally became legal. However when they did I think the Loving (last name case) was the first

@snowy22315 I looked Mississippi up and was shocked to see that 1987 is when the interracial marriage ban was removed . That is shocking to me. We really dodged that bullet.

One of his songs I had called the country western radio station to play was called "Flushed From the Bathroom of Your Heart". The DJ gave me a horrible time about the song and that it was written by some plumber for a person who needed their toilet worked on. He really razzed me about the song and then hung up on me. About ten minutes later he got on the air and publicly apologized to me, that Johnny Cash really did record the song and he was so sorry about the bad time he gave me and here is the song I asked for. I was shocked at the public apology and thrilled that he played the song. I also collected $5 on a bet that I had riding that there was such a song. That comes from being a big Cash fan...

@snowy22315 That song wasn't too old, it didn't hit the charts. I loved calling in and "stumping the DJ". LOL

We always liked him and his music too. I didn't know that about him. I don't think those points came up in the film about him.

Well his firstwife more properly might have been described as bi or multi racial. I don't remember the movie all that well.
