What Do You Do?

These questions are for mylot members who live in countries where long cold winters are experienced every year.
If you are a person who works in an office or elsewhere, how do you spend your evenings and days off?.
If you are at home all day how do you keep yourself from being bored and kind of trapped inside.? How often do you venture outside and how long does a cold winter last in your area.?

Winters here are cold, but not cold enough to stop us going out. On the coldest days it is still only a few degrees below freezing, nice enough to go out for a walk if you have warm clothes and boots. Another issue is the short days, here in December it gets dark about 4 pm and light about 8 am. Not so good for doing things outdoors. We amuse ourselves with theatre, music events, cinema etc and at home it's a good time for crafts of all sorts. I often get to my sewing projects in the winter, while in the summer when it's light until 10 pm I'm too busy in the garden!
I lived for three years in Minnesota where winters are much colder, down to -20C or even colder with lots of snow. It's too cold to spend much time hanging about outside but even so I couldn't bear to be in all the time, I would go out to walk to the shops or go cross-country skiing which was a lot of fun. People there seemed to be roughly divided into two groups - those who drove into their attached garage (with remote-controlled doors) then went straight into the house and never ventured outside (it's almost possible to avoid going outdoors at all, if your workplace has an attached covered car park, the shopping area has a covered car park and all is enclosed, there are drive-through food places and cash machines... probably more now than when I was there over 20 years ago!) - and those who embrace winter and make the most of that snowy wonderland by going skiing, snowmobiling, dog-sledding, ice-fishing, skating and the like.

@Kandae11 I'm not keen on the short days. In the middle of winter people are going to school or work in the dark and coming home in the dark. Further north the days are even shorter of course, and Scandinavia is even worse, with hardly any daylight. But that's the price we pay for the long days of summer!

Looks like you can still do a lot of stimulating, exciting things during those cold months. Dark at 4p.m, wow!. A daily dose of fresh air is very important to me, but l don't know how l would manage if the air is freezing. My sister lives in Canada and she misses her garden terribly during the winter. Thank you for this most informative reply.

Our winters here are generally mild although we have a cold snap right now. They don't prevent us from doing most outdoor activities.

@Kandae11 Skiing, unless it is cross country is expensive. People our age don't tend to do a lot of skating. The last thing we need is a broken bone.

@snowy22315 Yes that activity should be left for the younger folk.

Well I go out no matter what is in store outside Kandase. I am a lover of nature.
The seasons here are not what I am used to..it is variable here to extremes.
Where I grew up, there were clear separations of seasons.

I am home most days. I do housework and cooking. I read, listen to music, exercise and do yard work. I enjoy just being outdoors too. I enjoy my husband’s company when he is home . I rarely get bored.

Thankfully I'm retired and don't have to worry about going to work when winter weather is bad.
On days when I'm stuck in the house I occupy my time with reading, crocheting, watching tv and chatting here on myLot (not to mention the daily household chores that need to be done). What I hate most are the dreary, cold days when the sun doesn't shine.
