Cooking Competitions on TV

I love watching cooking competition shows. Right now it is Guy's Grocery Games where the contestant chefs have to pick their items from the grocery store, cook in the store, and follow the crazy twists Guy adds to the games. One that always makes me laugh and also I get somewhat frustrated with the uppity opinions of the chefs. Actually it is two twists. One is shopping and cooking only what they find in the frozen food isle. The other is only what they find in the canned food isle. But the best one is when they combine these two so they can only use frozen and canned foods. Well, what I think is so funny about it is that they seem to have no clue what great things they can find in either isle, or both isles. They think these items are totally horrible, but they make it obvious that they have never even tried those items before. So how do they know. I think they all need to have to spend a year in the Midwest, landlocked where the only fresh seafood they can get is what you go out and catch yourself. You just do not get fresh lobster, shrimp, scallops, etc in the Midwest. Not unless you are rich and can afford to order it shipped in on ice. They have no clue just what good items you can find frozen. Frozen foods are frozen fresh out of the garden, or out of the ocean, or off the farm. Canned items are already cooked and then canned freshly cooked. Do they not realize that families have had to survive on canned foods and self-preserved food for generations? Long before we had refrigeration our ancestors made their own canned foods. Well, then these judges, of course, are all professional 3-star and 4-star cooks who also have no clue about how good the frozen and canned food isles are. They are always so amazed when the chefs turn out making good food. And then some of the food is not so good because the chefs just cannot wrap their minds around the fact that frozen foods and canned foods are actually good. So they don't have a clue what to do with it.

Yes they are all pretty good. Kind of amazing, but it is all in how they were raised. Not many children I know would be entering a cooking contest. It seems most kids around here just want to watch tv and spend time on their phones and devices. Cooking is just too much like work.
