Maybe I’m getting more sensitive (my mother always told me I was “too sensitive”), but the trip to the site of the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing yesterday took a lot out of me. I recovered today by spending time at Georgia’s Red Top Mountain State Park.
The park’s primary feature is Lake Allatoona, where you can swim, kayak, fish, or boat. Camping is also popular there, as are hiking trails. I took the easy route, just walking about half a mile around the picnic shelters on the shore near the beach.
While it wasn’t sunny today it was still lovely. The weather is quite pleasant (unlike what those poor people in Nebraska and Iowa were dealing with today with tornadoes 
).
Yes, even on vacation, I need to rest up.

I’m thankful and amazed that, amid all that destruction, all they’re talking about are a few minor injuries. No fatalities reported anywhere.

@FourWalls I am glad there are no fatalities. I think that JJ is safe, I believe the tornado was not over his location.

You had a wonderful time,though it wore you out ! You still spared a thought for people in Nebraska and Iowa that was buffeted by tornadoes.

Yes, they were at the top of my prayer list. I’m so thankful that no one was killed, and there were few serious injuries. (If you see photos of the destruction you will see how amazing that is!) In the part of the US where I live, the south, people have a reputation for going out on the porch and watching them, so the fatality rate is much higher.

It’s one of those things about a vacation…you try to cram so much in that you’re more exhausted when you get home than you were from 50 weeks of work. Even vacations require a vacation.

I felt the same way after going to the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial and Flight 93 National Memorial….I needed to “unwind” after seeing such awful history.

There are a lot of places that do things called “controlled burns” to prevent big brushfires in the hot & dry season. (Obviously the state of California is NOT one of those places that believe in that.

I'm glad you were able to reset after your visit to the church. Great picture. Sounds like a nice place to relax. Drive safely and have a good weekend.
