5/7/24 - Update on My Husband

My husband said physical therapy did not go so well yesterday. He felt dizzy and did not walk so far. There has been no mention of doing Occupational Therapy or stairs. I'm going to try and see him Friday or Saturday. He said he'd like a burger, a chicken sandwich and some fries. I think his eyes are bigger than his stomach!!! Thank you for your continued support, prayers and thoughts. Photo Credit: Pixabay

One of the things all of us need to remember is that there will always be good days and bad days whenever we are doing any kind of rehab or therapy. I'm sorry to hear your husband had a bad day, but at least he seems to have a hearty appetite.

@LindaOHio I always say that a healthy appetite is a sign of healing and progress on a road to recovery. I hope he continues to want to eat!

I agree, I know when I was on PT it was not that hard but when your body isn't use to it after laying in bed for mons like I was it took me like 3-4 mons to get things moving & motivated, & sometimes it just drained me.

@2ndchances24 I saw my husband's legs. He used to be very muscular. Now they are just skin and bones.

@LindaOHio that's a hard thing to see when I came out of the hosp & went into rehab I was just about the same way I look like a 90 yr old with all the weight I had lost in a short time.

If he has a refrigerator then he could have all of that. Or maybe he wants the burger for lunch and the chicken sandwich for dinner.

Is he able to report feeling dizzy to the nursing staff and be seen by the in-house doctor for this? His eyes are probably bigger than you his stomach, but if he eats like that they won't be for long. I hope that you can bring him some granola bars and fruit to save in his room for another day after your visit.

The dizziness was probably a precursor for his low blood pressure. He could ask to be seen by the doctor. I met him when hubby had the first attempt at his surgery. He seemed like a nice guy.

Get that boy whatever the heck he wants and fatten him up! Sorry to hear he was dizzy. Can he do "assisted leg lifts" when he's lying in bed? Those would be good for his "core" and his leg muscles. If I were there, I'd put a towel under his leg, grab the ends, and ask him to "lift," assisting him less and less as his strength builds. Hell, a nurse could do that if she really cared (and the rules allowed it).

Nurses don't want to answer the call lights. They're not going to do anything extra.

He felt dizzy probably because he didn't eat much. Chicken sandwich sounds good for him.

My same opinion, he does not eat enough at the rehab center.

@LindaOHio He says the food is not good and too salty. I also think to remember he has a hard time cutting his own food.

Things seem to change day to day. When my hubby has a bummer day, mine reflects it as well.

@LindaOHio He's in a better place than mine. My husband will say 'later' when I ask him if he wants something to eat.

Yes he'd like to eat regular food every day if he could. The rehab food is so bad.

I pray he won't experience anymore dizziness. I can only imagine that too much salt would do that to him ..... if only he could get a transfer to someplace that actually cared about their patients

I have the feeling that your husband was dizzy because he was hungry. He does not like the food they serve there and it's hard for him to eat. I hope you can visit him and bring the food he asked for.

@LindaOHio This may be the cause and not eating enough is one of the causes why the blood pressure drops. Both my husband and I have low blood pressure, when he has to fast for blood works he always feels dizzy.

@LadyDuck He had the blood pressure problem during and after his surgery. That's why he was in Cleveland Clinic for so long. They couldn't stabilize him.

They should check why he feels dizzy perhaps due to blood pressure or something, I hope that things get better for him,

They are probably waiting until he walks better before starting him on stairs. I hope you see him on Friday or Saturday and bring him the food he wants.
