Waiting to get my contract for next year

Non-tenured teachers have to be told if they will be offered a contract by April 30 of the school year. I am tenured so it goes without saying that I will have a job next year. I keep checking my work email waiting for the notification that the contract is available online to sign. I knew roughly that my salary next year will cross a significant threshold but I wasn't sure exactly what it will be. Well I just found our contract online. Next year my base salary will be $91,820. I also get $900 added in service increments since I've worked for the district for over 20 years. That will put my salary at $92,720. It sounds like a lot but it will be my 24th year of teaching. (I started at $34,000) New Jersey is also an expensive place to live. Also because I am crossing over the $90,000 mark I move into a higher percentage of the premium for my medical insurance that I have to contribute. So what looks like an almost $5000 raise really isn't going to affect my bank account that much. We negotiate a new contract next year. That is always a disaster. I don't think we have EVER agreed on a contract with the BOE without declaring impasse, doing job actions, and having a state-appointed mediator involved. What I noticed from the current contract is that I am at step 21. The current one has 22 steps. So if they don't add or compress steps (they've done both in the past) I will be at the top of the guide on the first year of the new contract.

It seems impossible to get ahead with things the way they are.
