Not your normal shopping trip to the big Tesco. (8 May 2024)

We went to the big Tesco again this afternoon. I put the soft plastic recycle in the recycle receptacle again, and then we went up on the lift. I went and got a stamping magazine, then I got 2 bottles of water and 3 prawn layered salads. I got an extra one because I don't want to do any cooking when I come back from art class tomorrow. Then I went and got some nappy sacks for my Mum. We haven't got any babies, she uses them to put her used pads in! Then I went and got some pads for my Mum and some panty liners for me. Then we went to the fruit and veg section and got the usual stuff. I also got carrots and celery. But I didn't get a lemon because I'm not having my sea bass tomorrow because of art class and on Saturday I'm having the last of my salmon parcels. My Mum got some ready meal thing from the side while I got my yoghurts and 2 bottles of milk. Then I went back to where she was and she said she only wanted one bottle of milk, so I went and put one back. Then my Mum got her puddings for Sunday. I then went and got some Danish blue cheese for Syd, and then I went to the vegan and ready meals isle. I got my fridge raiders meat free bites and some tofu, then I went to the other side to wait for my Mum. She was taking a long time, so I went to see where she'd got to. I went back to the previous isle where I'd last seen her, but she wasn't there. Then when I turned round I saw her heading down the centre isle! She was nearly to the other side of the shop! So I chased after her and when I caught up with her I said, Where are you going? She said she was looking for me. I said I was in the ready meals isle. She said she'd looked down every isle as she went passed and she couldn't see me! Anyway, we went back to the ready meals isle. Mum got a cauliflower cheese thing. She didn't want anything else as she's hoping to defrost the freezers on Saturday and Sunday. Then I went to look for some sea salt, and I managed to get some fine sea salt. Then I went and got some long grain and wild rice. We were just going down the isle as I was going to the canned isle to get a pot noodle for Syd, and all of a sudden the lights went out and the music stopped with what I can only describe as a clank! I said, Ooh! I think we've got a power cut! Anyway, we carried on. Some Tesco shop workers walked passed and smiled at us. There were a few back up lights so we weren't in total darkness. And it was fine where the windows were, it was only really the back of the shop that was dull. We carried on getting our things. I got Syd's pot noodle, then we went to the cakes. Mum got her cakes for tonight and some Mr Kiplings. Then we went to get some crisps. I was infront of my Mum and I heard some people saying that we wouldn't be able to pay until the power came back, because ofcause the tills had gone down! So I went and told my Mum. I also realised that the lifts wouldn't be working, and neither would the automatic doors! We got the crisps, then I went and got some Love, Corn and some Honey Roasted peanuts. We got some muesli for Syd, then we went to the frozen section. I noticed that they'd put the shutters down on the chilled areas. Then someone put a piece of cardboard over some of the frozen stuff in a freezer at the end of the isle. I thought, Do they really think that's gonna stop them thawing out? I got my vegan magnum ice lollies, and then we went down the second frozen isle. I was going to go and get my salmon things. But then a notice came over the tannoy saying that they were going to close the store, and that all our shopping would have to be put back! I left my trolley at the end of the isle and me and my Mum headed towards the doors. One of the Tesco ladies asked my Mum if she was OK and would she be able to get down the stairs? She offered to help my Mum down the stairs. When we got to the doors I said, I was hoping the automatic doors wouldn't have stopped closed! The Tesco lady laughed. She said At least you wouldn't starve if you were stuck in here! I went down the stairs and waited for them to help my Mum down the stairs. She says she was OK as long as she had something to hold onto, but she couldn't get down the stairs. They got a wheelchair for her to sit down in for a bit and then they'd work out how to get her down. They asked me if I wanted to go back up and sit with her, so I did. They gave us a bottle of water each, which we didn't have to pay for, and one of the Tesco ladies went down to find Syd when he came and tell him what had happened. They were really nice and kind. I was getting rather hot, so I got out my fan and started fanning myself and one of the Tesco ladies said, Yes, it is getting rather hot in here. Ofcause the air conditioning's gone down aswell! I told my Mum she could give me a little shopping list and I'd go to the little Tesco when we got home, but one of the Tesco ladies said they might have a power cut too! She said the whole of the town centre had gone down! It turned out there was someone trapped in the lift, and the fire and rescue service had been called to get them out! I said, Thank goodness we weren't in the lift when they had the power cut! When they'd got the lady out of the lift, one of the fire and rescue men took my Mum down the tremulator, which ofcause had also stopped because of the power cut, in the wheelchair. I went down the stairs again. When we got to the bottom Syd was coming in through the door with the other Tesco lady. He'd taken the car and put it in one of the normal parking spaces away from the pick up spot. So we got in the car and went home. When we got home I immediately checked our electric by putting a light on, and it was fine, so I went out and told my Mum as she was getting out of the car, because she was worrying about how she was going to cook her dinner. When we got in my Mum gave me a little shopping list, her club card and some money and I went to the little Tesco. It was lovely weather out, so I didn't wear a coat. When I got to the little Tesco I got some bananas, 2 small heads of garlic for Syd, carrots, celery, spring onions, a red pepper, blueberries and strawberries. Then my mind went blank for a bit. Must have been the stress. I was going backwards and forwards all over the shop looking for stuff. I got my Mum some pulled pork that I thought she could have for Sunday which wasn't exactly what she would have got from the big Tesco, but it was similar. I managed to get my fridge raiders meat free bites, but I couldn't get the prawn layered salads. I got tuna and sweetcorn pastas instead. I couldn't get any edamame beans. I got some protein bars instead. I did manage to get some Love, Corn and some Honey Roasted peanuts. I couldn't get any nappy sacks for my Mum, but I did get my yoghurts, although they weren't the same flavour, and I got some toffee puddings for my Mum and Syd for Sunday. I also got them some of the custard things from the bakery, and since it was after 5:00pm, they were half price! I got myself another bottle of water and one bottle of milk for my Mum. I also managed to get a pot noodle for Syd. And I got some raw prawns for me and some battered cod for Mum. Then I went to pay. The things filled the basket to the brim. They nearly filled my trolley to the brim too! So then I went home. When I got home I unpacked the groceries and put them away, telling my Mum what I'd managed to get as I did. I had to tell her I couldn't get the lettuce that she wanted. After that I had my dinner - an hour late, and watched some telly. I'm going to go and wash up now. It's been one strange afternoon! What have you lot been getting up to today? I hope you are all well. Have a great evening and night.

I'm sorry the power went out. I'm glad you could get home from the Big Tesco and could go to the Little Tesco for groceries.

Thank you very much. It was a bit of an adventure! I'm just glad it wasn't us who got stuck in the lift! I'm glad I could go to the little Tesco to get a few things too, but I was really tired afterwards. We'll probably be going to the big Tesco again tomorrow to get a few things that we couldn't get.

@just4him Yes, it was a bit of an adventure. But it stopped being a bit of an adventure when we found all our shopping had to be put back! We're going back this afternoon to get some of the stuff that I couldn't get when I went to the little Tesco.

Yes, we did, didn't we? I hope your appointment went well. I had a bit of an odd day today what with art class, taxis and a bumble bee! It's all in my latest post.

It was a bit exciting at first, with the power cut. But then when they had to.shut the store and put everything back it started to get a bit stressful. I didn't have anything for my dinner or tomorrow's dinner or Friday's lunch or.... So I was glad I could go to the little Tesco aswell. But I felt exhausted then after all that walking and my legs really ache still! Thank you very much. I feel better that I managed to get some stuff from the little Tesco. I hope you enjoyed watching your ER DVD. Have a great night.

@sharonelton It's a wonder they didn't let you check out but I guess they couldn't if the power was out.

@JudyEv No, of cause they couldn't because the tills were all down. All the power had gone off except for the back up lights.

@sharonelton My worst nightmare, well one of them, is a power cut when I'm in a lift. I avoid lifts at every opportunity. I'm sure your glad to see the end of all the palaver.

Oh, yes! I am so glad we weren't in the lift when the power cut happened! My Mum would have had kittens I'm telling you now! When we were by the cakes I said to her, well, it'll be something to tell my friends on the internet, and she said, Do you have to tell them everything? Yes, I am definitely glad to see the end of that palaver!
