Hot though they be there is no household atleast in India that does not use them in their cuisine I use them too but just enough not to burn my tongue. There are some who eat them raw and feel nothing. Did you know chillies are rich in Vitamin c? Image credit:

I imagined anything hot would be mostly red in color.

I use them too red/green chillies or the finger chillies for cooking but just like you I don't want anything too hot, just the right kind of spicy kick.

When they are cooked the spiciness gets reduced but I also use raw ones in salads.

@allknowing Yes, sometimes. Not as often as we used to because the girls object to spicy foods.

I will use a jalapeno or poblano pepper in some of our dishes, but nothing super-hot. I am not a fan of super hot food. I don't mind a little warmth though.

I was going to comment about them being healthy and filled with vitamin C. I like just a little bit of their flavor in various dishes.

Here green chillies are very common. They are green but it doesn't mean they are ripe. If they are small and green, usually it is a very spicy chilly.

They turn red when they are ripe. We use dry red chillies in our cuisine more than we use green chillies.

I also grow green chillies, I use it to cook. My husband in the past ate them raw, no more now, the doctor told him that it's not at all good.
