It's been a rough week

It's been a rough week here. In my discussion titled Incarcerated I told you about my son being in jail for probation violation. Court for the violation was Tuesday and they sentenced him to 5 years. I know it's his own fault but it's so difficult! Also, they have him in solitary confinement. I'm pretty sure I understand the reason why and that's because, as I told you in the other discussion, my son has a lot of mental illness issues. He gets so paranoid and then starts screaming, cursing, glaring at a person like he wants to kill them. I think solitary is for his own safety.

Wouldn't it be better to place him in a mental institution rather than in jail?

I would think so but that's just how the state of KY works, which is where he lives.

@marymary621 That's actually a bad provision. Even if a person is detained or convicted, they still have the right to be treated humanely even inside prisons. If they were to discover that an accused has a mental healthy issue, they should have put him in an institution. That's what we do here in our country.

@grenery8 He asked for a certain book and I sent that and I found a crossword puzzle/word find book based off the same book. So not only can he read he can do the puzzle book also. I hope he likes it.

They let him out of solitary once a day for exercise, seeing other people and he has always been a loner. He likes to be alone. He reads a lot also and I've been sending him books.

And they just put him in a regular jail? If he has mental issues you'd at least think they'd put him in a special facility.

They have him in a special unit of the jail and so far he seems to be doing a lot better. Hopefully it lasts.
