I have two pearl necklaces. I doubt one is real but, the other one is. I was curious and struck out looking for information on the best type and what the most expensive ones are. It seems that the most expensive ones are natural of course but, the golden type is the most sought after. The more golden the more expensive they are. But pearls can come in many colors such as white, cream, gray, black, silver, hues of purple, green, blue, pink, champagne, and chocolate. There are several different kinds and come from many parts of the world. I tend to like the champagne, gray, and silver colors best.
The three most expensive pearls are:
1. The Giga Pearl is worth $200 million and is the largest pearl known. It is white and cream weighing. a little over about 61 pounds. It is a natural blister pearl from a rare giant clam.
2. The beauty of Ocean Pearl is a pale color with creamy undertones. It is about 5 feet high and weighs about 6 tonnes*. It is worth $138.7 million
3. The pearl of Lao Tzu ranges from greenish gold at the bottom to pure white at the top. It is considered a gemstone pearl or "clam pearl". It measures 24 centimeters in diameter(9.45 inches) and weighs 14.2 pounds(6.4 kilograms) It is worth $93 million.
*a 'tonne' is a metric measure and is equal to 1.10231 tons

Wow, your interest in pearls has led you to discover some truly fascinating and valuable specimens! It's impressive how varied and colorful pearls can be, from the classic white to the exotic champagne and silver tones that you favor. The fact that pearls like the Giga Pearl and the Pearl of Lao Tzu not only exist but hold such staggering value really speaks to the unique allure pearls have maintained across cultures and centuries.
It's great to hear that you have a couple of pearl necklaces yourself. Even if one might not be real, pearls have a way of adding elegance and sophistication to any outfit. Have you thought about getting your pearls appraised to learn more about their origins and possibly confirm their authenticity? It might add even more to the story and enjoyment of your collection!

They sure do add elegance and sophistication. I might get mine appraised. Never think to take them with me when I go to a place near a good jewelry store.

I have a very pretty pearl necklace that I inherited from my grandmother. I really don't ever wear it but I do treasure it and it's a keepsake now.

That's so nice. I wonder if my grandmother ever even wore pearls.

I have bought some pearls from one of my gem suppliers, but nothing like what you have researched...talk about feeling poor! Another thing I learned a while back is that you can dye pearls, but it is recommended that you save that kind of thing for less expensive pearls as it does take away from the value of anything more expensive. I may give it a try later this spring when it warms up more. Thank you for the information, I wonder what the Crown pearls are worth...They don't get the cheap stuff!
