I think I just faced some age discrimination

So, I applied to work on a site that is very similar to a site I work on now. They kept telling me they were " processing" my application.I asked about it and they sent me a rejection paragraph. Bottom line, this site knows nothing about me other than basic demographics like age,sex etc. It does not me happy, but it isn't like I can prove it. Were you ever discriminated on the basis of age, or if you are young do you know anyone it happened to? I know it happened to my dad one time.

I had the same feeling years ago when I tried to apply at a writing site. They only knew my basic demographics and they rejected my application. I always thought it was because I was "too old".

Yep, and it is silly..just because you are old or older..doesn't mean you aren't valuable.

@snowy22315 You are valuable and you are unique. No one else has had your exact experiences. You can see things in a different perspective.

I have been rejected from some surveys because I am not Hispanic or Latino.

I don't qualify for a lot of surveys now because I'm older. It's more of a demographic thing than age discrimination. When I got out of college I was discriminated on the basis of my age. When the employer found out how young I was, he dropped the starting wage by $50 a month. Back then that was a lot. Have a good day.

I believe you, but my mom can even do Crowdtap at her age. It could be a geographic issue too I suppose.

@snowy22315 I can do CrowdTap and several other sites. Only a small percentage of what I did 16 years ago.

Where I live, the older you get the more difficult it is to get a job. I even had to stop my own daughter who, once started to talk to me in a patronizing way. I looked at her as if saying WTF in Spanish and she had to lower her eyes.

I need to color my roots!Although that would not work online. Most people who see me think I am younger than my stated age.

@snowy22315 Maybe we should start by refusing to state our age online. Let THEM guess it.

I'm more likely to be rejected for my nationality. The cost of living is too high to pay me peanuts but I don't have the privilege of being a native English speaker or whatever. Sorry you were rejected due to age, I don't get why age is so important especially if you'd work from home. If you can prove you can complete your tasks "despite your age", they don't have the right make a fuss about it.

@snowy22315 Yes, I mean people from the US/UK/Canada usually get more online opportunities with a decent pay, so I didn't think that site in particular would pay little. Then the opportunities that are open to all countries mostly cater to places where the cost of living is low, but not all people from countries outside of "Tier 1" can live on "peanuts".

When I was in my teens I felt discriminated against with several jobs that I applied for.

I'm sorry you were discriminated against. I felt discriminated against when I started in the workforce after I had my diploma as an offset press operator. I was a woman without 20 years of experience.

Sometimes if you don't fit their "vision" of what you are looking for they won't hire you.

@snowy22315 That's true. It took a long time before I found a job as an offset press operator. He took a chance on me and it turned out to be a really good job for me.

Happens all the time..that seems pretty blatant, but doubt it's worth taking an online entity to task. They would go into CYA mode.

I can't do surveys anymore. No one cares about my opinion. I was even told that people my age do not go online and I am mistaken about my age. I had a long, hard road to learning to do things on the computer. How would you like to be told you are not qualified to do a survey about butter? I was rejected by a writing site for no apparent reason.

It could be income related as well, and or maybe the sites you are using.

I'm sure I've been kicked off survey sites because of my age. Sometimes it makes sense but other times it's a bit annoying.

Yes, but they should let you join. Who knows what will come down the pike? This wasn't a typical survey site anyway..more like user testing.

I am from a tier-3 country and encountered a situation where I felt discriminated against. It happened when I applied for a job that I really liked on a website. Unfortunately, it seemed like my nationality played a role in this unjust treatment. Hehe

They should realize that this is a global market and financial activities are not always limited to one country.

In India it's very difficult to get a job after 60 and therefore I don't apply usually excepting sometimes.

no explanation in that paragraph, of course; how nice of them i am sorry. i thought if you have an experience, age shouldn't be relevant. i don't have a lot of experience in some fields and i always think i am rejected because of that but who knows. employers are getting meaner and souless. in one of my job interviews i was even asked how old i am (by a woman) i and i thought it wasn't relevant for the job but who would know vicious way of employer's thinking. though, i had a feeling i wasn't considered as a children entertainer cause i was older but they could have told me i wasn't the fit, even in email but no feedback at all.; the place where i went was full of college students, for whom they don't have to pay taxes but i didn't know that.
