The planning for the end-of-year staff BBQ has started

When I first started at my current school they had an annual EOY barbecue on one of the last days in June when the students had half days and staff had to stay the full time. A few male teachers would bring their grills, people would bring in sides and desserts, and everyone spent an hour or so talking, eating, and laughing. They also used to do formal retirement parties but over the years participation seriously declined so those are history. Now we use the staff BBQ to recognize the retiring teachers and staff. Today we received the date/time and spreadsheet for people to sign up for what they are going to bring. People at work love when I cook/bake so they are always expecting me to make something rather than bring plates or ketchup and mustard. My first thought was to bring macaroni and cheese but I wouldn't have any way to heat it up. I have a microwave in my classroom but I can't nuke a foil pan filled with that. I did homemade potato salad and brownies last year. I wanted to do something different this year so I decided on homemade cole slaw with creamy cumin-lime-dill vinaigrette. That recipe is from Bobby Flay's Barbecue Addiction cookbook. I made it once for a 4th of July barbecue at my house and it was a HUGE hit. I'm sure I'll bring something for dessert too. Maybe a lemon ricotta cake. I have time to decide.

You love to cook so much..maybe you could pick up some money this summer..preparing some special dishes for people. Maybe some limited catering for small gatherings or something. It would be fun and lucrative..as long as the people weren't too demanding.
