Our plans have been changed for us

I wrote a while back about Vince needing open-heart surgery and the date was set for May 14. The last few days we’ve been pretty much isolating as there is still a lot of covid around. Then, just yesterday, he received a call saying an emergency case had come in and his operation had been deferred to June 3. It’s hard to describe the emotions we felt. Disappointed of course and a bit flat. A bit in limbo wondering what to do next. But it is what it is. June 3 is a public holiday here. Vince is hoping he won’t be charged penalty rates (that’s a joke). The photo is another one taken at our friend’s place on one of our other visits. I’ve used it before.

That is devastating. I remember when a myLot member was hospitalized for a heart attack and had to have surgery, she did not know day to day when it would occur. It made her very anxious, which is understandable.

We feel a bit in limbo with 3 weeks and nothing planned but now we're recovering and are going to visit some friends here and there that we really should have visited before now.

Well that threw a kink in your schedule, didn't it? I hope that the Covid rates go down before his surgery and things go well for him. I know the longer wait is upsetting to both of you.

Still, that kind of surgery suggests that Vince's condition is serious and shouldn't be put on hold for that long

I am sure sorry. I remember when my son was in the wreck. The surgeon he needed to the hospital that they took him to was scheduled to do an operation in about 40 minutes. They bumped that fellow to the next day and put my son in the OR. I felt really bad about it, he didn’t seem upset but his adult children were. We were in the surgical waiting room together for a while. I told them I was sorry he got bumped, I had no idea. But one of the kids said it was ok, for me not to be sorry. That his could wait one more day. But he didn’t have to wait weeks longer like your husband. I’m sure sorry, I know it’s so worrisome and frustrating.

I guess we're thankful that Vince is well enough that they weren't worried about delaying his op. However you do get psyched up about such a procedure so it's a bit of a let-down. I'm sure it will be fine at the finish.

@JudyEv Surgeries are always make me nervous, whether I am the one getting surgery, or waiting in a waiting room for a loved one or friend to get through it. And yes, it's a let down..plus the waiting can be very taxing. I am sure you are taking good care of Vince!

I'm so sorry. This happened to my husband when he had his open heart surgery. He had tubes in his neck, etc. and had to wait an extra day when an emergency came through. He was so uncomfortable that they had to keep him sedated. I'm so sorry that Vince's surgery was delayed. I hope it's not delayed again.

You don't have to report having covid any more but we're forever hearing about people with it. We'll continue to be careful but won't isolate for the whole three weeks.

Open heart surgery sounds like a heavy emergency to me. I would think anything more emergency than that would have been done right away, not in several days. I feel so bad for you and Vince. I pray that all goes well for you both until the surgery is done, and that he recovers quickly. Beautiful photo. I love blue birds of all kinds. What type is this one?

Thanks for the kind words. We'll certainly be pleased when it is all over. The bird is a blue wren. There are several species. This is a 'splendid blue wren'. I love the way he is walking.

It's a 'splended blue fairy wren'. They are tiny little birds but very pretty. We don't have blue jays here.
