News: Students plot to kill their teacher.

WAYCROSS, Ga. -- Eleven students got together and plotted to kill their teacher, even going so far as to bring handcuffs and a knife to school, Waycross police said.
One of the teacher's relatives said each child at Center Elementary School in Waycross had a job to do, including one assigned to wipe up the blood.
The plot unraveled over the weekend when a student tipped off police, Local 6 reported.
School officials said they never imagined that some of the 8- and 9-year-olds boys and girls at the school would think of bringing physical harm to a teacher, WJXT reported.
"A plan had been developed amongst several of our third-grade students to allegedly do harm to their teacher," said Theresa Martin, of Ware County Schools. "It's shocking that they would think of this at their young age. I think that is probably the most shocking part for all of us," Martin said.
In addition to the knife being found, the school officials said other students had duct tape, handcuffs, ribbon and a heavy crystal paperweight.
The police chief in Waycross said that he believes the plan may have been developed because one of the students was punished with some sort of time out. However, that theory remains under investigation.
"I can't believe that -- because he's a third-grader. You know, I cannot believe that. Especially, for here," said parent Doris Rowland.
The children could face expulsion and criminal charges pending the investigation.

I can't even fathom this scenerio. Eleven third-graders plotting a murder? Wow. That's just about the last thing I expected to hear in the news today. Very sad situation.

It is sad. I couldn't believe it when I saw it either. The news said, "A class of children plot to kill their teacher." I was thinking, "Gosh... Teenagers these days." But, no. Not teenagers this time. These are children my oldest son's age. And I couldn't imagine my son doing or even thinking something like that. It's just unreal.

That's absolutely unbelieveable!! What is this world coming to? That sounds like it's right out of an episode of South Park. Unfortunately, kids would watch something like South Park, and GET IDEAS for something like that. Scary stuff happening these days.

I agree. I don't think for a minute that these kids dreamed it up on their own. I think they've seen something to make them think something like this was possible. And the fact of the matter is, as unfortunate as it is, it may have only been one child out of all 11 of these kids that brought it up to the others. So, no matter how strict you are with what your children watch and learn from television and video games, all it takes is one parent of a child who's not as strict to give your child ideas. ;/ It's sad.

In some respects this does not suprise me. I just spent 15 minutes googling different things. On one web site where you could post your goals there were 21 posting where the goal was to kill their teacher. Another web site showed a movie final project on Killing a teacher. You could find out how to kill the teacher or how to do it slowly.
When I look at the things the students brought it makes me think they watch a lot of crime shows on TV. I enjoy the police shows, I am in my late 50's and know right from wrong (I hope). From what I read about this story the kids planned it out and thought about how to get away with it. They were going to knock her out and use handcuffs and tape to tie her up and them stab her with the knife. One person would clean up the blood. They brought gloves to avoid leaving finger prints. I can see the thinking of a third grader. The gloves were stretchy gloves, not what you would use for a crime. To tie up the teacher they had electrical tape and packing tape along with handcuffs and ribbons. from the looks of the rolls of tape there was not enough to do the jo but that is the thinking of a third grader.
It makes me wonder if we have spent too much time in this country trying to blame everyone else for our troubles that we forget we are responsible for our actions. I think of a car accident where a person was hurt because she hit her head on a rear view mirror that was mounted on the dash. The jury found that her striking her head on the mirror caused the injury. What was not mentioned was the fact that she was sitting on the counsel between the bucket seats. The lawyers argued that since there was no law against it then it must be legal and it could not be used against her. (this case was before seat belt laws). The comment I remember the father making was I am so glad that it is not my fault but the car manufacturer. There was warning about not sitting between the bucket seats.
Did these children feel that they were the victims and the teacher was the cause of all their problems and if they got rid of the teacher all their problems would go away. That is 3rd grade thinking.
