Do you grind your own coffee?

I used to grind my own beans so that the coffee grounds were fresh. Then I quit drinking coffee except on rare occasions. Now I have began to drink it again after making it for company over the holidays. I bought a can of coffee but miss the really fresh taste of newly ground beans. So next time I buy coffee I'll buy beans again and start grinding my own. So do you grind your own or just buy coffee by the can?

We always buy coffee in the can. I've never tried to grind beans. Would probably make a terrible mess in the kitchen. I like Folger's and my husband likes to drink instant coffee. I do have an old coffee maker so I perk a pot when first waking up in the morning. I won't drink it at night because it will keep me awake. I can drink decaf if I really want something warm in the evening.

I have a coffee maker that's electric. I measure the coffee and plug in. I do remember when people use to perk it on the stove.

I used to at the store where I purchased it and did it ever smell good.. I don't think that the grocery store that I shop at has a place to grind it anymore.. It would be nice to get a grinder and do it at home.. Sounds so good, a good fresh hot cup of coffee..

Hi Jill, As a matter of fact, we do grind our own beans. I used to do that for myself 20 olr so years ago and then my hubby and I started doing it about a year ago or so. It's just not the same to drink even so called fresg coffee if it hasn't just been ground. It's such a simple treat. Unlike what we used to think, coffee is best stored in a dark container at room temperature. Freezer and refrigerator I guess take away the flavor. Just a little tid bit. leenie

I usually keep mine in the freezer! It does help retain freshness.

Jill, I thought so too but when we began getting coffee beans online, I learned this through the so called experts. It's no big deal. Do what you always do. leenie

We do not drink coffee but I do love the smell of it. My mother loved her morning coffee and ever so often one later in the day ..... oh the aroma ..... I can almost smell it now. I love walking down the coffee isle at the store. I have drank coffee before but only with milk and sugar in it but still never aquired the taste for it.

Hi jillhill. I love freshly ground coffee beans, but I never buy whole beans anymore. I'm the only one in the house that really drinks coffee and I only drink 1 cup when I have it. So, I use my single cup brewing system by Keurig. It brews 1 fresh cup at a time using k-cups, when are individually sealed "cups" of freshly ground coffee. It makes the best cup of coffee ever. Plus, there's no clean-up as the filters re self-contained and can be thrown in the garbage after brewing a cup of coffee. Anyway, if there were more people in my house that drank more coffee, I'd get out my bean grinder and grind those beans! Enjoy your coffee beans, Jill.

I don't drink coffee, but I use Espresso roast coffee beans in my Espresso Toffee. I grind them up fresh whenever I make a batch. I don't grind it fine like you would for coffee though. More of a coarse grind. I don't even like coffee and I think the stuff is good.

I add a coffee flavoring and some beans. It gives it that extra kick. Then beans were actually my brothers idea. I think it was a good one. You can't eat that stuff late at night though that is for sure.

No, I don't drink coffee because it gives m stomach cramps. I drink tea instead. But yes when I was young, we used to pick coffee beans when they're ripe, let them dry and then pound the skin out of them, roast them and then grind them again into fine granules. I always remember the smell of pure, tasty coffee during mornings. Sometimes when we were able to harvest more, we sell them.lol..those were the days in the village.

A good cup of coffee begins with the grinding of the beans! The aroma of freshly ground coffee beans sends your senses into a frenzy. Once the coffee begins to brew and fills the air with that freshly brewed aroma you wait patiently for that last drop to come through the machine. Grab your cup and fix it to your preference and you are in wonderland. We do buy ground coffee too, but there is nothing better than beans that you grind yourself!

Mom and I go to Gloria Jean's and get our favorite flavored beans(on sale, of course) and I grind enough for 2 days....mom makes more than one pot per day. That way, we can switch flavors and not leave ground up coffee sitting around getting stale. I may be nuts but I think the longer you grind it, the stronger it gets too. I also get a flavor called mocha merriment that's only around in December there. It's perfect for those chocolate cravings some of us get.
