Are horror movies the work of people with great imaginations or distorted imaginations?

Sometimes when I watch these types of movies or read books of this type, I wonder about the psyche of such people. I know that the human imagination is really very big and we can imagine many situations and events even if we have not experienced them, but in horror films such things really happen that it is hard to say whether their author or originator did not exaggerate. What do you think about this?

When I was young in the sixties I used to enjoy horror movies but later they became so terrible that I avoided them. Not a fan!

@Gguusia I enjoy watching Hallmark romantic movies and comedies these days. There's more than enough horror on the news that I don't need anymore.

Funny horror movies scared the heck out of me when I was young, example Psycho but as an adult I kind of enjoy the suspense. Go figure!

I understand you perfectly well, also at this age I wanted to watch horror movies, they made me curious, but now somehow I don't see anything fascinating about it.

It's hard to say. creative licence is often used, as a production typically is the work of many, not just one.

Yes, I think you are right. Perhaps that is why such films and works are so confusing.

@kaylachan I agree,a movie is result of hard work of many people. More the people, more complicated it becomes. Everyone have imagination and combined effect turn out into a movie. But the greater role is of writer, the actors and the director I guess.

Probably a bit of both. You've got to have a wild imagination and a some craziness too to come up with such horror! Maybe a touch of the sadistic too?

I have often wondered about this, how anybody could think up such stories. Maybe they get their inspiration from nightmares.

I am wondering about that too. Either out of nightmares or they develop and exaggerate some situations that really happened.
