The Mind is Always Free

Mind is Free

We are from time to time restrained by the environment like now with the ongoing pandemic. And a few have to put up with restrictions of various types, job related or otherwise. Earlier times, there were issues of slavery though even today some countries impose a tight rein on free speech. Agreed, a certain discipline is necessary as freedom for one could result in oppression of others. I have gone through periods in life where I had to restrain myself from expressing opinions. It was not easy on my mind when I felt I was not truthful to my conscience. I did manage to put across my views though in an oblique way to feel at ease. I think one of the greatest blessings has been that our mind is free despite our restraining it at times. We can bide our time and reassure ourselves that we are not totally constricted. I always took the first opportunity to come clear on such issues without offending others. If it is not worth it like it could lead to controversies, or it being not the forum to express them, I move on. Are we not blessed that our mind is free at all times, reaching everywhere in a split second? It can go back in time or into the future, feel the pulse of our yearnings and even live them. I seek refuge in my mind. How about you? Image: The Mind is Free from free media site Pexels

No one can be above tension and anxiety. However, I have taken a view to accepting the fruits of my labor. Though I keep certain goals and work towards them, as uncertainties are rife we cannot hope to get what we want. But what we get is still worthwhile with the right mindset. Take it easy and enjoy the moments - worrying only worsens our health issues.

Yes, the mind is a wonderful thing something which separates us from other species. Having the rationale to be able to accept or reject others opinions, and to make decisions based on what we have learned all make us unique. We are not totally reliant on instinct, instead we absorb information and grow from it from the moment we are born. God has blessed us with the freedom to use our intelligence, truly remarkable!

We are indeed blessed that way. We have the freedom to chart our paths too. Even in totalitarian regimes, we can keep our minds free though we may not be able to express our feelings freely. We may be imprisoned physically but the mind is always free.

@Shiva49 Well said. I agree. The mind is part of the human spirit and a strong will does not break easily.

Our creator has seen to it we are able to survive here. Mind comforts us but we should not overburden it. No one should be allowed to control it and dictate terms.

I am a work in progress. And have accepted the fact I will always have things on my mind, out of my control. Many things are in my control, those I keep reigned in. To state your opinion in some discussions can be taken the wrong way. Drama is never good. I basically keep my true feeling to myself about certain hot topics.

I can understand. Even here I get dragged into controversies though I do not get into such topics. We all have our cultural backgrounds that all will not share, so it can never be there is only one school of thought. My experiences and background could be different and it is better that we do not go on and on, back and forth.

Yes, our mind is like that, there is no barrier it can travel to any place within a second. It becomes a problem when is not allowed to speak what he/she thinks.

The poorest can become the richest and also the opposite in no time with our thought process. We can go to the farthest corners of the universe and also travel back in time or forward. Of course, we need some imagination and knowledge to more appreciate them than go by wild guesses. To have a mind is a great blessing, let us use it wisely.

Although this is very true that the mind is free and there we can have our thoughts to ourselves, not being able to share them is deep suffering.

That is the way to maintain our freedom. Some tend to get into a tangle allowing others to dictate terms.

I found as you get older you are less concerned about what you say. As long as it is not done with malicious intent truth & honesty is a good thing but sometimes being diplomatic is better for all concerned.

I have felt we change every ten years or so due to our experiences and circumstances. I am more careful not to make my life complicated now and live my days as more like an observer. Like inside a train looking outside at a few that I had taken for granted. I count my blessings more often now.

It's a nice thing our mind can travel far, can create drama, can produce millions and feel satisfied imagining things beyond reality. At least it eases boredom and helps forget the problems we're all facing in this pandemic. Sometimes, I let my free mind works for the dispersal of the virus and feel contented for the winning, drama effect. . And let's not afraid to keep on thinking for no one gets insane thinking of many things. Albert Einstein said that our mind stores 70, 000 thoughts everyday. I doubt if the young people in techno world can spend even 1/3 out of 70 000 for they're more on watching videos, their eyes work, but mind becomes dull. Thoughts unused.

Thanks Erly, so well expressed and food for thought too! I have been a professional accountant for forty-five years and now retired. I had times when I had to relax and letting my mind free was so soothing. I go back in time too and recall my associations with some from my childhood . Most have passed away but they live on in my mind. At times, I can feel their presence too as if they are still with me! Yes, our mind is a great boon but we should tap its wisdom rather than getting too involved in this physical world and existence here. It is a great reservoir and I think it is connected to our creator through our soul/ spirit. The mind is free and no one else can control it unless we choose to forfeit the inborn freedom. We should treasure this gift and use it wisely.

@Shiva49, so true, thanks, very well said. Our mind is our only true partner in every decision, plan and even the domain that gives free will to commit or not to commit a sin.

Nisargadatta, that great Indian sage, said this about our mind: "Distrust your mind, and go beyond; only then can you directly experience full living, loving, and being." Our minds tend to take over, and colour things for us in their way, unless, we recognise them as being just a tool, of our higher self, and not the be-all, and end-all, of ourselves. The mind is always free, and yet, it can also control our ultimate freedom too, if we allow it to do so. Our mind can either sit behind, or in front of love, in our lives. Living in God's way puts it, our mind, behind love, while living our ego's way puts it, our mind, in front of love. The paradox is, what part of us do we make our choices with, our mind alone, or involving our heart, conscience, and intuitional connection to our higher self, too?

@Shiva49 That's well said, siva. "I put my heart, and my soul, into my work, and have lost my mind in the process." Vincent Van Gogh, the renowned Dutch artist, (1853 to 1890) said this, perhaps a bit cryptically, speaking. If we are going to be controlled by a part of ourselves then, far better, if it be, by our heart, and our soul, than by a regimentalised mindset, instead.

@innertalks Yes, heart and soul have a wider reach while the mind can be inhibited within a rigid frame. Heart embraces oneness while the soul is linked to our creator - that outlook ensures oneness and love.

Yeah, the mind is also a tool. We should inspire it with the right mindset. We should take care not to jump to conclusions, think before we jump. We need to curb those activities that bring fleeting moments of satisfaction Even if we accumulate riches, we need to remember we are mere trustees of them. When our actions are in tune with the creative process, then they are coated with love. Our minds should be rid of hubris, jealousy, selfishness but oiled with love and compassion, then our ride takes a higher purpose transcending our physical life here. It should lead to a seamless transition and not trying to hang on and eventually to be prised out!
