Fidget toy

My psychiatrist advised me to get a fidget toy to assist me cope with my stress and anxiety. She suggested that playing with it might help me. I purchased one online, and while I wasn't sure how to use it at first, after I started fidgeting, it seemed to have a calming effect and was more like a baby toy. It is shaped like a cube and has various buttons or switches on each side. You can dial this circular device; it has an on/off switch. Then there is this button that makes a clicking sound, and on one side is a joystick that allows for 360-degree rotation. Although it is quite easy, it somehow tricks your mind into relaxing when you are feeling stressed.

It was very popular here 6 or 7 years ago. My husband bought one and he was bored quite soon playing with it.

I see I think I might also get bored about it in time. For now, I am just using it whenever I feel like using it.

@LadyDuck I see I still use mine every now and then. I think it helps me relax a bit I just do not know when the attack is severe if this can still help. So far there are no major attacks anymore coming in and I am able to stop it before it gets worse.

I remember buying fidget toys as a prize for my son's baptismal. May that help you deal with your anxiety.

Still learning if it is effective or not for now. I think it does it but it does not entirely remove the anxiety.

I remember when they were first released, and they were recommended for a lot of people with things like ADD, Tourette’s (I remember watching a documentary on Tourette’s Syndrome, and many sufferers used one), a panic disorder, and anxiety, like you mentioned.

Crocheting has the same effect as the fidget toys. It distracts men from having negative thoughts thereby getting rid of my anxiety. That's why I got into crocheting. And the best part, I am earning money from the very therapy that helps me with depression.

I think we all have to try different things. I hope this will work for you. Keeping our minds occupied is the trick.

That is true. Sometimes doing a lot of things too can make you anxious. A balance between the two will work.

That is true I sometimes think it takes time to really take effect when you are under an anxiety attack. But I think it helps me focus and distracts my anxiety from bothering me.

I got one for my dad to use, as he was picking at his skin. It didn't catch on. I would like one though. I could use it.

I feel like I have outgrown using it now that several months have passed. It was beneficial while my anxiety was high, but I do not think I use it as much these days.

What is the logic behind fidget toys though? I have never tried consulting a psychiatrist.

If it helps you. I like making things. I can use my extra energy to crochet. In fact, I need to make some new pot holders. The ones I made before are getting rat tailed.
