Deleting Messages

I had over 80 messages here on myLot. Now I'm down to 70. Why am I taking so long? You can't delete whole conversations here, or at least I personally cannot do so. I have to delete each text, one by one. Thankfully most conversations are short. Why would I want to delete messages? Well, I can't see past the first 50 conversations, they won't load. Yes. I've just counted them all. I've just figured I only need to delete 20 more to see ALL messages. So far it felt like finding a lost private journal. Distant memories; lots of people who either left, were banned or passed away. Some are still around. Thankfully! So, what's your message situation here on myLot? Do you have over 50? How often do you delete your messages? I know some don't use this feature, in the Settings you can turn off messages.

I would love so much to have the feature to "delete" whole conversations. I have plenty of messages of people banned, but it takes so long to delete message by message. I have 70 messages right now, down from 280. The 210 missing were deleted by myLot during an update/upgrade last year. I delete time by time, but it takes forever.

@LadyDuck I hope no important conversation you cared about was deleted by the update. Luckily low activity also means fewer messages incoming, so the cleaning process can continue smoothly. I don't know why we can't delete whole conversations, but deleting message by message can also be fun if done with much moderation, i.e. once in a while.

@sabtraversa After reading your post, I went to my messages, checked those where I knew there were only a few messages and deleted. I often receive messages by newbies asking silly questions.

I don't have many notifications so I can check quickly

@LotusEyes Notifications aren't an issue for me either unless I'm away from the site for longer periods of time, at that point I think most notifications simply disappear.

Have you deleted mine? Also, if you delete a message, does it also delete it in the messenger’s messages? I think I have 25 messages, if it’s that number in the brackets?

@sabtraversa Oh, you deleted them to look for mine? I’m as disappointed as you that you haven’t found any. Maybe I sent them to someone else in error? It’s very personal getting messages, but I don’t want to be too personal. It’s a quandary. I have checked mine and like you, most users are no longer active. I hope that is nothing to do with me.

@Orson_Kart I deleted some messages because I wanted to check if you ever sent me any, I had to do some cleaning. And it looks like you never did. I don't know if the messenger can tell I deleted their messages, most users don't seem to be around anymore so they wouldn't notice if that was the case. Yes, I firmly believe it's the number in the brackets.

@sabtraversa So many talk with you in the private messages? I don't get private messages often

@averygirl72 Private messages because notifications are automatically deleted after a while, so no need to worry about those.

@averygirl72 Not anymore, most messages were old. It was when there was more activity and more new members asking for info or thinking this was a dating site.

I have less than 30 and they are very old. I might have to go through these at some point!

@sabtraversa My oldest pm is from 2011, and mostly from new members that left shortly after. I will go through the messages , I am curious now :)

@besweet 2011 is impressive! It's like ancient history at that point, but it probably still feels like yesterday.

@besweet Yup, I noticed most of mine were from 2017. While it feels like yesterday, that was seven years ago!

@grenery8 Very few seem to use the message feature here these days. I also tend to keep only what is important. I'm unable to be consistent with a private journal so past conversations can help me remind of past events and the way I felt about things. But not all conversations are that deep.

@grenery8 Aww, too much cleaning can be as bad as too much hoarding.

@snowy22315 I see. I only delete email spam that doesn't fall in the spam folder right away, or if I run out of storage which has never happened. Recently I noticed this thing on myLot so I thought of doing some cleaning between interactions.

I did take the time to delete messages - and posts - it was some time ago last year. Just had to do it once and for all. But I didn't count them, and I do remember it did take some time.

@sabtraversa Yah, I've read the fine print on some of those sites . . . that they own the rights. Oh, but I didn't know that you couldn't delete your own posts - that would not be cool. I just wanted to delete them before anyone on the outside finds out that I vented on the internet about them .

@much2say I wouldn't have the patience to delete everything at once, but I do delete posts (discussions only though) from time to time. I enjoy the freedom of doing so, not all platforms allow you to delete your own posts because once you publish they own the rights to that extent.

@much2say Yes, you never know when you might regret posting what you posted, and once you realize it might be too late to do anything except pray the support service is fast and understanding (usually not the case).

@tkonlinevn Aww, that's sweet. I usually just look at who liked or commented on my discussions for an easy way to reach out.

I never realized that you can’t see past 50 on here. I have 86 messages. I guess maybe I need to start deleting some as well. I do not like the fact that we have to delete each individual message one at a time. I’ve had some lengthy message conversations with many myLotters. Have you tried to reach out to each myLotter before deleting their messages to see if they are still around?

@moffittjc I think some old conversations were deleted during a server update, then I kept conversations of past members I'd care to hear about, it's way less than 50 people. So I can still try. A couple I'm completely sure they're no longer. But wanna keep the memories.

@sabtraversa I understand about wanting to keep memories. It’s nice that you can look back and revisit old conversations.

@dya80dya But then you won't be able to see the last (or first, depending on the perspective) two messages, or will you?

@sabtraversa Yes, I can't see the last messages. But they are old and the people who messaged me aren't here anymore.
