So today we have the genesis of rock and roll with Elvis in 1954. Then we go forward 30 years to see what evolved from that. What a way to celebrate a birthday, huh? This is just a little different from the Presley tune. Hard to believe it’s now 40 years old. Enjoy this one. Run Runaway - Slade As popular as Slade was in England, it’s hard to believe that this was their only American hit. That they recorded, that is: Quiet Riot did a cover of Slade’s 1973 hit “Come [not spelled that way] On Feel the Noize.” This is such a fun, fun song. The video even looks like they had a good time filming it. Front man/primary songwriter Noddy Holder was awarded the MBE in 2004 for his contributions to music. They are plentiful, even if most people in America just know this one song. Run Runaway Written by Noddy Holder and Jim Lea Recorded by Slade From Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply, 1984 Money ain’t everything:

That’s true of so many songs. There are songs that were big hits in a number of countries that bombed here in America, and big hits from America that people outside of the U.S. have never heard.

@FourWalls I remember that when I came back from the US when I was around 14, the kids I knew had never heard many of my favorite songs .

There are a lot of these songs where you had to be watching MTV at the right time to hear.

This was later in their career. They started in the 60’s, but came to fame during the British Glam Rock era of the 70’s, along with other great bands such as The Sweet, T, Rex, and Mud. Great times for me as a teenager. I’m surprised this was their only hit over in the States. They had 6 number ones here, including Merry Xmas Everybody. Fantastic band and I think they still tour, but without Noddy.

@FourWalls Noddy has such a unique voice. He’s irreplaceable. He has done a bit of acting. Have you seen The Grimleys? Worth a watch as some of his music is played. Might be difficult to understand the accent, but it’s very funny in places.

The metal band Quiet Riot covered two of their songs where were hits here, but this was Slade’s only top 40 hit. I’m surprised myself, because a lot of people know “Merry Xmas Everybody.” Can’t imagine Slade without Noddy.

@Orson_Kart — I haven’t seen The Grimleys, but I don’t have a lot of trouble with accents, thanks to all those ITC shows I watched as a teenager.

Glad you liked it! It’s a fun song. I wore the 45 of it out back in the 80s.
