I was wrong. But that's okay. It's happened before.

I wrote recently about food vans that came to the oval near us. One couple there had some parrots on a lead and I wrote about them too. I thought the parrots were sun conures but it seems I was wrong. The couple and their birds were at the opening of the shopping centre near us and Vince spoke to them and took photos for me. They are caique parrots. I thought they might have been young sun conures because of their short, square tails but this is a characteristic of the breed. They are native to South America, with different species coming from different regions north and south of the Amazon River. They are stocky with strong legs and feet. There are several varieties including black-headed and white-bellied so I don’t know what these two are. They bond well with humans, are not very good fliers, being a bit clumsy and slow compared to other birds. They also get tired and winded after a short distance. Thanks to Vince for the great photo.

Vince took a great photos, those two parrots are so colorful. I am not at all an expert, I could absolutely not say which kind of parrots they are.

He asked the owners so I guess they know what they are talking about. They would have to have licences to keep these.

He took a great photo. As pretty and colourful as these parrots are, I cannot imagine having a bird as a pet myself.

@JudyEv I just cannot think of how to interact with such a 'pet' and without any interaction, why take it on as a pet?

I wouldn't want one as a pet either. I don't think any of them can be toilet trained although I have heard that some have a 'toilet area' which would be a plus.

@Juliaacv Parrots and budgies do interact to a certain degree even if they don't talk but they're usually very messy.

I wouldn't know the difference between parrots. It's good to learn what kind of parrots they are and their characteristics. The picture is beautiful!

@JudyEv If you don't ask, you don't learn. I'm glad you found out what they were.

Great photos of the birds. Those parrots have something in common with me. I also get tired and winded after a short distance on my treadmill, lol.

Most are very noisy or can be and they are quite messy. These are very cute however.

They are really quiet - not a bit fazed by all the noise around them nor the attention they attract.

I was surprised to see it too. They had a harness round their bodies and were perfectly happy with it.

Some very interesting facts about these birds. Our judgement and inferences can obviously go wrong at times. Yet if we are able to rectify in time, it is fine. May be since they are stocky, they would be getting tired faster than others.

I think you are right about the reasons why they would get tired.

They are incredibly quiet. They have little harnesses over their chests but they make no attempt to go anywhere.

That is a great photo so colorful. I like the videos online where parrots "talk to each other" It is more like talk at each other. I saw one too..where the bird was reciting facts about himself.
