An Old Historical Silo Up the Street

United States
April 20, 2024 6:27pm CST
This building is on 90th St here. It is circa 1912 and was built by John Wick. Apparently in the deed, it is not to be torn down as it is historical now. It was part of an old farm before the Countryside Estates were built. There are some apartments in the area named after it..called Silo Apartments. It sure is creepy looking. Do you have historical buildings where you are?

I don't think it is creepy, just old! And yes, we have historical buildings here. My house is one but we did not want to put it on the registered list because you can't make the changes you want to the house, they all have to be within the time period of the house and approved by the society.

@RebeccasFarm It really looks creepy. What we have here is not a historical building;but a dilapidated house at the outskirts of the town. It's an abandoned house.People believe it's haunted.

Not many historical buildings around. Keeping historical buildings intact in their original form is a good idea. However, I wonder what if some part of the building starts falling and is a threat to people passing below? Will the Government agencies do anything?

@RebeccasFarm Hopefully, the safeguards are in place. Else the building can be a potential hazard!

In that case, yes they will have to, or repair it.

I am sure that the photographers love to come by and take pics of the silo. We had a couple of old windmills on the farm when I was a teenager, and we would often have photographers come to the house to request permission to take photos of the windmills and to ask about the history of them.

@RebeccasFarm No, although it has been photographed and shared around the world, I have not a single picture. We took it for granted as an old windmill in the field.

@RebeccasFarm There's rumor here the old police station was haunted. But it has been disassembled and reconstructed.

Ohhh, can people actually go in there? In our local area, I guess there are old ranch/adobe houses and missions (not a lot, but they do exist).

The buildings here that are heritage listed can create all sorts of problems for anyone trying to modify them. This silo does look creepy.

Yes I imagine a lot that can't be altered when trying to restore or repair them.
