A windy week in Whitby!

We recently spent a week’s holiday in Whitby, on the north-east coast of England. When I mentioned our plans to anyone I quickly found that we seemed to be just about the only people in our village who have never been there – everyone I spoke to seemed to rave about the place, although when I asked for more details of exactly what they would recommend as things to do, there was rather a lack of specifics. It seems to be the kind of place that people like to go and just enjoy being there.
Whitby is basically a fairly traditional seaside resort, with a bit more in the way of interesting history than your average resort regarding fishing, whaling, boat-building, jet carving and the famous abbey. And for much older history, it’s a good place to find fossils.
Whitby featured in the story of Dracula by Bram Stoker and that connection, combined with the landmark view of the Gothic abbey ruins, draws a lot of fans.
I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow!
For Dracula fans, you can read more about the connection to Whitby here:

I’m like that! I judge seaside towns by the quality of their fish and chips, and ice creams.
They do a nice lemon top (an ice cream topped with a tangy lemon sorbet). Delicious

I love Whitby, along with many other seaside places along the Yorkshire coast - Scarborough, Filey, Bridlington. I particularly like Robin Hood’s Bay, as it’s a bit quieter, or was the last time I went. Whitby was overrun by tourists the last time I went. Didn’t enjoy it at all.

@Fleura I’m thinking that I was there as a toddler.

I did actually get targeted by a seagull. We had just bought ice-creams and were admiring the view of the harbour when I was caught off-guard by a gull that swooped down and knocked my ice-cream off the cone! I should have known better. Anyway I was determined it wasn't going to have it - didn't want to reward that sort of behaviour - so I scooped the ice-cream back onto the cone (it had landed upside-down) and then I scraped off the gritty part where it had contacted the ground and ate the rest.
