I´m wondering if I should buy a new electric blanket.

Winter is coming and I´m wondering if I should forget about previous problems with electric blankets that have ended with scorched sheets. Nothing really terrible has happened yet, but I can´t but think that the best ways of heating the bed is my heating a seed bag in the microwave oven. I am sure that I won´t get burned with them. Another problem is, of course, the price. I cannot buy all I want. I have to decide what I most need. I like to eat well and to buy some luxuries as food goes. I have shrunk the grocery bill by teaching my guests to bring the wine. But still I like to feed them with good food. And as I live alone, I like to invite people for dinner. Sometimes I feel that thinking about bills and money takes up an important part of my time Do you have such problems, friends?

Money has been tight here since my hubby had the boat loading accident last Fall. We had just gotten all of those bills taken care of and then I had the rooster attack and more bills! It is a never ending thing here. I am hoping that my deductible is met now because I have a test the cardiologist has ordered for me. Our insurance does not cover them 100% any more. I say go for it on the electric blanket. We have really enjoyed ours.

I hope your deductible is met, too. And, I hope you and your husband don't have any more accidents! I love my electric blanket. So warm and soothing, truly wonderful!

In winter, I use a heating bag to warm my bed first.

I need a warm bed all night. Warming my bed is not enough with my neuropathy.

Yes, I do. It's called paying bills. I have a lot of them. And it's a struggle, but I've been doing my best.

I´m doing my best too but it seems that everything I need is more expensive than the day before.

@marguicha I know how that feels. We're making it work, but bills can suck.

I think we all have money problems in our days. My niece had a very serious accident with an electric blanket, she does not even want to see one in the house now.

I have had 2 minor accidents with the scaldasonnos. I haven´t been burned but the sheet suffered. I cannot help but asking myself What if?

@marguicha My niece was deeply asleep, the bed sheet went on fire and then the mattress. She only had her hand injured, but she suffered for the toxic smoke of the mattress. Better be careful. I never wanted one.

@LadyDuck I think that I´d better spend a bit more in electric heating in my room. I have an electric heater and I can use a devise to make it turn on and off when I want.

Electric blankets are a lot better than they used to be. Look for one that has an automatic shut off time. Our throws that we use during the day shut off after 2 hours. The one on the bed shuts off after I think 9 hours. They all have different heat settings we can use also.

I´ll chck that. And I´ll check on the price too. There is a great difference between brands and I know nothing about them.

I do have those same problems. I have a one person income and I am trying to help my son. I find electric blankets are a true blessing!! Do to the neuropathy from MS, my feet and legs are always cold at night. It helps so much! I have never had scorched sheets or any problems with them other than they die after years of use. I have an electric throw blanket for hanging out in the living room and a regular sized one for my bed. They get well used. I got the small throw one two years ago for Christmas, and the kids got me the big one for the bed this past Christmas. It saves on heat usage as well!!

I´ll have to think about it. I have a giant down quilt and 2 seed bags that are heated in the microwave oven. I also have a neuropathy but my ancient alpaca sock help a lot. They are so easy to take off that I can do it while I´m sleeping. I have had them for around 20 years and they are so darned that I´d bush if I still knew how

@marguicha I have a favorite pair of really heavy socks I wear in the winter, and they are much darned as well. No shame, and no need for blushing. Alpaca wool is expensive!

Yes, all the time. We have a heated mattress pad under our sheets. I like that better than a heated blanket over me in bed. Yes, they cost some, but they save on your heating bills. You can turn the heat down and still feel cozy. We have heated throws for when we sit in our chairs, to stay warm. They have automatic cut off times.

I don't worry so much about money nowadays but it used to consume my thoughts big time. You were llucky the blanket didn't cause a fire if it scorched the sheets.

You would be so comfy with an electric blanket. My husband and I are lucky. We are comfortable in our old age. Have a good day.
