There was nothing interesting to report yesterday, but I’ll try to make up for it today. Before I head off for new adventures I’ll venture into my three favorites from 1984. Maybe not the song themselves but the albums…and in all these cases it was tough to pick one song from the album. So let’s get rockin’. #3: Better Be Good to Me - Tina Turner I can’t say anything about this woman that I didn’t say when I visited her hometown in February, or when I highlighted her in the “2023 music losses” countdown. Wow, what a woman, what a singer…. And what a comeback! Private Dancer was one of the best albums on 1984, loaded with great tunes (such as the title track, written by Mark Knopfler). I love her rendition of Al Green’s “Let Stay Together.” But I always go back to this song. Although she didn’t write it, the song follows a woman like her who’s been hurt before and is now skeptical (“I don’t have no use for what you loosely call the truth, and I don’t have the time for your overloaded lies”). It’s a rocking reminded that it’s okay, gals, to demand a little respect. Better Be Good to Me Written by Holly Knight, Nicky Chinn, and Mike Chapman Recorded by Tina Turner From Private Dancer, 1984 Did you think I’d just accept you in blind faith:

Remarkable talent and a survivor, someone battered women can look up to (and emulate: run from your abuser!!).

@JudyEv — good for the marches! I saw a thing on Facebook the other day that said it’s only the 50th anniversary in America of women being able to get a credit card without their husband’s co-signing for it. That Alice Cooper song, “Only Women,” is nearly 50 years old (it’ll be on the list next year), and not much has changed in this half-century.

@FourWalls We had protest marches in Australia on the weekend about 'gender violence'. There have been an inordinate number of women murdered recently by partners or spouses.
