Do You Think There's And Epidemic Of Loneliness?

United States

I keep reading on the Internet that there is and Epidemic of loneliness. I have read some of the articles people write about how lonely they are. It really sounds so very sad. It's actually hurtful to hear people talk about being so alone. All of the people aren't old, but talk about how lonely they are. What are some of the things you think you might do if you were a really lonely person. I think maybe I'd be online joining a group like Mylot. I wonder if they know platforms like this even exist. I sure hope I. never get that lonely, it sounds terrible.

My husband is more social than me. I'm glad he found a small, local church to go to. Through his efforts we have become friends with a couple of people.

There are many people on My Lot every day, who are very lonely. Online sites can't make loneliness go away! Yes, it's probably an epidemic, but it has always been this way. We are living in the end times, so all issues are getting worse. The Bible states clearly, things will wax worse and worse, as Christ's return to earth draws closer. I look forward to his second appearing!

The dependance on social media, and the online world in general, actually fosters the feeling of loneyness people expereience. Instead of being in the moment, people are either interested on getting likes, views, excetra or envy those who seem to have the better life. Instead of sitting down to have a conversation, we're on our screens communicating through a keyboard. Mylot, is a good place, and is one of the few good ones left. People are motivated to make money, or whatever the case might be. Some people value the friendships, and you don't see so much toxicity. i think the minimilist design has something to do with that. You don't have AI shoving what's the 'most appealing' in your face. All in all, Ithink that's why mylot is better. It doesn't have bots or trolls. Not like more popular social media sights, designed to make you depressed and lonely. Yes, Facebook actually cunducted an experiment, designed to see if it could make their user's depressed. Which actually worked. And the users had no idea it was going on.

@popciclecold Think about it. Internacting online isn't anything like doing it in-person. You can't ever really know what's going on with the person on the other side of the keyboard. You can make yourself be anything you want. Which is where the lonelyness sets in. You're not connecting with people. You're in a world you create, where you can weave it how you want. While there are pros to an online life, this is just the con, the dark side if you will.

@popciclecold I can't help thinking if people took time to get to know their neighbors that things would get better. People used to look out for each other.

People who don't like socializing online or offline are sure to feel lonely and those who can't work and bed ridden. I am thankful to God that I am still able and keep myself engaged with household chores. I therefore don't feel lonely.

I am a counselor and I keep meeting people who suffer from loneliness. And surprisingly these are people who are social and very active on social media platforms. They have thousands of friends on these platforms. And on other hand we have some people with limited social life and very few friends. But they don't feel lonely and have few close friends who stand with them through thick and thin.

@popciclecold People are living more in virtual world. Human interactions in real life is getting minimum with advancements in technology. The warmth and connection of real life is missing.

I just don't understand loneliness. Day after day I am alone in my apartment with two cats. I have my set schedule online and I write and interact and do other things and my days just fly by, Perhaps they do not like themselves, Me, myself, and I have become very good friends and always look out for each other,

Well, after I read how lonely they say they are. It sounds most troubling. Perhaps they don't like themselves.

People are losing the art of making friends and conversing. I'm sure some of these people are on social media but don't have face-to-face people that they can interact with. It is very sad.

I think in world of adults, most of ppl are lonely deep in heart.ppl always deliberately keep distance each other. Now this situation became trend.ppl are unable to change it,what they can do it to overcome loneliness by some social activitys.

Covid made everything worse, with the world isolating. Yes, places like Mylot would help if no other option is out there, especially those without family. I’d also join a church if a person is in any way interested in God. While not every church reaches out, the ones I’ve been involved in like to reach out and get people involved. They also tend to check in people if they indicate they are having a difficult time.
