This may be considered “cheating” a little, because technically, this song was released in 1953. However, it was the ninth-biggest single of the year 1954. And I love it so much I’ll argue with you over it. Back by popular demand, here’s the penultimate song from 70 years ago. #2: Secret Love - Doris Day What is there not to love about this song? Yes, for you kids raised on Metallica and Creed I can understand. But dang what a song!! I know it’s “pop” or “easy listening” and “old fogey music,” but this is simply gorgeous. It won an Oscar (Doris Day sang it in Calamity Jane) and became one of the great pop standards. Despite the fact that the first version I heard of this was by Freddy Fender in the mid-70s, I always come back to this rendition. Secret Love Written by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster Recorded by Doris Day Released as a single, 1953 Even told the golden daffodils:

Come back to this, or enjoy today’s 1984 song, instead of today’s 70-year-old tune.

I don't often hear a song by her how but what a wonderful voice she had.

I know, it’s like she and so many of her generation just disappeared, and that is so incredibly sad.

We’ll try again in May (since I know you won’t know tomorrow’s 1954 song).

So do I, even though I didn’t first hear it until Freddy Fender the country singer covered it in the mid-70s.
