I’m on my way to where Sherman ended his destruction of Georgia back in 1864. While I have breakfast at Cracker Barrel I’ll give you another favorite from 1984. This is celebrating its 40th anniversary in a BIG way this year, so here it is! #2: What a Day That Was - Talking Heads A couple of months ago they released a 40th anniversary version of the classic concert film Stop Making Sense. The restoration is so good that Talking Heads drummer Chris Frantz said there were things he’d never heard before…and he was there for the concert!!! Stop Making Sense was, is, and ever shall be the concert film that every other one is measured by. Instead of six seconds of the artist and 45 seconds of audience shots, this is Talking Heads. You will see the audience at the end, but if you paid your money to see the Heads on the screen, the late, great Jonathan Demme made sure that’s exactly what you saw!! I’m so glad they did this song. It was originally done by front man David Byrne as part of the soundtrack for The Catherine Wheel, a Twyla Tharp dance feature. This version blows the one on the soundtrack out of the water. And it’s a really good counterbalance to the Doris Day song I used today.
