What happened to Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners? They used to be good. Now they don't suck. They blow! A quick review.

Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners used to be dependable, at least in my experience. But the last two Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners I have bought lasted about 6-months each. Yesterday, I decided to give Dirt Devil one more shot. I bought one of those small hand-held Dirt Devils for about $45 at Target. I was going to empty it often and get to those hard-to-reach areas. The "dust bin" was rally small, but oh well. It lasted...two hours. Today I return my Dead Dirt Devil to Target. Halleluja. (music emoji). Do you have any experience with Dirt Devil products? What vacuum cleaner would you recommend? Kitty and I are both sneezing.

I'm not sure what we have. But I know I had a Dirt Devil once.

Our upright vacuum works very well; but I can't remember the brand. Good luck finding a good handheld vacuum. I hope you get some suggestions here. Have a good day.

Thank you. For now, I will pick up dust bunnies by hand.

I have heard others say the same thing about them. I don’t recall ever having one. Hopefully you find a good one.

I had a Dirt Devil for about a year when I expired, My friend gave me a vacuum where the dirt swoops up into a plastic canister, You cannot get too much in it but it works all right, I have always wanted a super strong hand-held one to just get up dirt every day quickly but have not found any good ones, Apparently they say online these kinds are good by Black and Decker but I have not checked them out yet or the prices,

I guess I'm an odd ball, I buy from either a yard sale or a thrift shop. They usually get the vacuums from estate sales or from people who don't want to be bothered cleaning. I just finished mopping my floors and all I have left to do for the inspection tomorrow is to clean the fridge and rinse out the tub (I put Petey's poopie box in there, but for tomorrow morning and most of the day he'll have to make do with the big box.). I use a Eurika Mighty Might tank style that is really small and powerful---I got it for $10 on a first of the month sale at the thrift shop I like. It works wonderfully!!! I can't say enough good about them. I've had Dirt Devils before and they didn't work worth SH*T, either when they first came out, later on or even now. I lean more towards the old ones that are bagged and don't fight me when I want to use them. OH!!! Plus the ones at the thrift shop I got to try them before I bought it...try that in the store. They get display models that work like champs because they're made for demo's.

Well Boy Howdy! Thanks for the idea! We have thrift shops galore around here! I always hope that I'll find a pair of Rogers LS3/5A studio monitors in one for $100 (they're worth $2,500) but it hasn't happened yet. Maybe I'll go check out some thrift stores around here after I return my POS and get some contact cleaner. It's a bit too chilly for swimming right now.

My Dirt Devil sweepers worked fine. I still have one of the electric broom types that works great. But I have stopped buying Dirt Devils because of their cords. I have had two ruined because the cords do not hold up. The rubber coating breaks open exposing the electrical wires inside. Then I have to patch them with electrical tape. I got a new sweeper last year. I think either a Hoover or Eureka kind that has the swivel handle. I never wind any of the cords around the places you are supposed to wind them. I figured out that is at least part, if not all, of the cord problem. I just loop them loosely and hang the loose cord on the top hook. Works a lot better and hopefully the cords will last longer. Dirt Devils are the only ones I have ever had cord issues with before.
