Traveling Protection

I was listening to the "Stay Ups" with Chow Yun Smut, one of my favorite YT personalities this morning and she was giving some good travel advice. There is a story in the media right now about a family who had booked a room on a Carnival Cruise line. The nicest suite of rooms available. Somehow someone cancelled their accommodations on them. They had been excited about the upcoming cruise and posted all the info online. The booking number and all. This person took that and their name and canceled their room. This caused a big stink in the media. Carnival Cruise offered them $10,000 in cruise credit if they would merely post that they were happy with this outcome. Not sure if they did or not. Can you believe it? I wonder if they can catch this person and if they can charge them with identity theft. The YT personality is a travel agent/adviser and she said it is very important when planning a trip to have a travel agent make reservations for you. It is a layer of protection you can surely use in a situation like this. A person can't cancel their accommodations. They have to have their travel agent do it. It's also important to get vacation insurance. So many reasons why. An individual's regular insurance doesn't cover them in other countries. Neither does Medicare or Medicaid. Good to know. Third-party insurance is the cheapest by the way.

Wow, that's quite a story about the Carnival Cruise booking! It's shocking how something as simple as sharing excitement online can lead to such a frustrating situation. It really highlights the need for caution with personal information. It sounds like having a travel agent could indeed add a valuable layer of security. It’s a good reminder of the benefits of professional advice and services, especially in scenarios where you might not consider all the potential risks. And yes, travel insurance is a must; it’s surprising how many people overlook it until they encounter a problem. It’s great to hear travel tips from someone like Chow Yun Smut. It always helps to get insights from experienced travelers. Do you use a travel agent for your trips, or have you considered it after hearing this advice?

Yes, it does indicate the need for professional services or advice at least. I will now if I ever get to go on a trip.

@celticeagle It sounds like a wise decision to consider using a travel agent for any future trips, especially with the unexpected situations that can come up. It's always nice to have that extra layer of protection and someone to handle the complexities of travel arrangements. Hopefully, you'll get the chance to go on an exciting trip soon! Where would you like to travel if you had the opportunity?

@annierose .........I'd like to take a train to New Orleans and then go up to Michigan and out to Mackinac Island to see where the movie Somewhere in Time was filmed. What about yourself?

@kaylachan ........I am beginning to wish I could get out for a while but it's too hot now. I'd rather stay in and be safe.

@celticeagle I personally need to get out of the house ever once in a while. While I don't mind the same four walls, staying healthy means venturing out.

I don't think people realize how bad some others are.

That is quite the story. I don't know how they were able to cancel without more info that that. When I changed a cruise since they were sailing differently than I planned, I was asked a bunch of questions. Someone with Carnival dropped that ball big time.

@celticeagle I cruised Carnival back in 2011 and when I wanted to add something, I was asked a bunch of questions to prove it was me. Either that person new enough to do this or it was a third party that didn't go by protocol. How awful. I've only sailed Royal Caribbean after due to where going. Hope nothing like that happens again.

It's terrible someone could cancel their cruise reservation. It was good of Carnival to offer a travel credit. Good advice from the travel agent.

One thing I don't like is that places like this cruise line won't give a return in cash, only a credit. Yes, I thought it was good advice and wanted to share it.

@celticeagle It forces the person to use their cruise line for travel.

Very interesting and informative. I'm afraid, except for 2-3 day trips, our traveling days are over with. Have a good week.
