Does Spain Has the Right to Block Ships Carrying Ammunitions to Israel?

May 20, 2024 4:35am CST
Spain has denied permission to a ship sailing to Israel to deliver ammunitions . The country has operated a policy for decades especially in allowing ships carrying certain items to dock at their port. Is this a step in the right direction or do you think Spain has no right to do such?

The did NOT block, they denied the right to stop at Cartagena's port. Of course they have the right to refuse a ship to stop at one of their ports

@ogbenishyna No matter which country has the right to deny permission to a ship to stop at their harbor. They have also the right not to let the ship enter their territorial waters.

@LadyDuck It even happened to Humberto when they brought the Halcyon to Chile. They just explained that there were pirates around and that they did not have enough guards and policement to check the ships. So it was better not to let anyone on.

I am not sure about this. I have not followed the news. Not sure what is their reason behind doing this.

Any country has the right to deny permission to any ship to stop at any of their ports for whatever reason.

They have every right. Their territory, their rules.some countries just want to live in peace.

That's true, but I believe there must be some treaty or agreement between the two countries until now.

@grenery8 That's true, but in this case, I dont think Spain was under any security threat.

They can't stop a ship sailing through navigable and international waters. However, refusing to allow a foreign ship from docking at a country's port is valid. A country has their own sovereignty; thus, their ability to do that.

Exactly, maybe they were not allowed to berth in Spain.
