Summer Storm

It is only fitting that one the weekend which signifies the unofficial kick off to summer that we experience a hot and muggy day. The humidity built all day and finally around 4pm, the skies opened up and the winds picked up and we got a storm. It got awfully dark. The problem was that I was over at our son's place playing with the girls. It can be a bit tricky getting out of there as they each need to hug Nanny, and kiss her and say their 'I love you' to me. And of course I don't want to leave without my purse. It was just starting to rain when I left, but I didn't get half way home when I noticed the skies were green towards the country-they live on the very edge of town. The rain became strong making it difficult to drive in. When I pulled onto our street, I was going into the wind and the rain was pounding down on the car. An indicator came up on the dashboard saying something about the front assist had gone out, that meant that the strong winds blew some rain into the sensor. It should be fine the next time it is started. What an end to a long and great holiday weekend. It is still thundering and lightening outside and of course raining.

I know that you are a careful drive, I am really glad you made it home safely. I think you got the perfect timing to leave.

Truthfully, had I left 5 minutes earlier I would have arrived home before the worst of it all. But those little girls really cling to me and try to delay my departure.

@LadyDuck They missed their afternoon nap, and they were both tired and cranky. Poor Willow laid down on the floor on her tummy, which is her sleeping position. They didn't want them to sleep so late in the afternoon, I hope that they made it until the 'end' of their day.

@Juliaacv - I understand very well that it's hard for you to get away for those beautiful sweet girls.

Thanks. I took my time and just drove the speed that I could. This car has too many electronic sensors on it for my liking.

@wolfgirl569 My hubs likes all of the sensors, but I don't understand them really, they confuse me.

The main thing is you made it home safe. We all have those summer storms this time of year.

I drove super slow because the roads had so much rain on them and my wipers really couldn't keep up with what was coming down. I can see that the skies are already starting to clear. Enough of that awful heat and humidity, I believe that we will have more over the evening and tonight, but tomorrow will hopefully be warm and drier. That humidity really draws out one's energy.

@kaylachan We have very similar climates, although most people think that since we are in Canada we have cold summers. Today was 30C which is 86 on your scale, and with high humidity, you know how that feels. It was amplified today as the summer's heat just seem to come about in the past few days, I wasn't ready for the heat and humidity. I had a soon to storm headache this morning on an incision that I have on my head from where I had brain surgery years ago.

At least you got home safely but driving in that storm must have been stressful. Hope the sensor is okay

I was happy to get back home. The sensor was fine this morning. I remember the first winter after we got it, a snowplow flew past me in the next lane and threw alot of heavy slush towards my car, and it did the same thing to the sensor. They are almost too sensitive if that is possible, but maybe the way that I drive, it is a necessity.

@Marilynda1225 This car is loaded with digital sensors and all kinds of bells and whistles, more than I have the knowledge of really. I am more of a Fred Flintstone car driver.

@Juliaacv I'm sure it's the sensor and NOT your driving

I'm sorry it rained so hard on your way home. I'm glad you got home safely. I hope your garage is attached to your house, so you didn't get wet.

It was short, but such a very strong storm, and the 2 that followed were just as bad. I didn't get wet going from the garage inside.

Glad you made home safely. We had a horrible rain and wind storm not long ago. A tree limb fell in my yard, but it didn't hit the house.

A tree limb downed from a storm sounds serious. We've actually never had that in all of our years now that I think about it.

It wasn't pleasant, I am thankful that it is a short drive. Our son's subdivision is up on a hill, I am really glad that I left as soon as I did otherwise I would have had to stay until all of the storms passed.

I am glad you made it home after a day spent with your family. We actually have 3 days in a row without rain which is a nice break. I went over and mowed at the church this morning since it will be raining by the end of the week.

We were pretty much guaranteed some rain over this particular long weekend. I am sure you can relate, you will likely see some over the course of next weekend if Murphy's Law holds true.

We need a bit more rain, downpours and storms like yesterday are only dangerous, not really good for the water table in general.

Thank you. Today it is just calm and mild. The skies are4 cloudy, I wouldn't be surprised if some more storms passed through our area. This weather is too early for May, it is more late June weather.

I believe that there has been hail around, the sky looked like it. And it cleared a little while after I got back home and now it is at it again, but without so much wind from what I can tell.

Oh thank you, but I think that it is okay. By the time that the first storm rolled in, I was on the downside of the weekend and ready to prepare supper and then it isn't too long before you realize that the weekend is over, and you get your back to work thoughts going. That was where I was when they started storming.
