A tree down 2 houses away from mine.

On TV they are saying that there are parts of the city with no electricity. Meanwhile, 2 houses away from mine, a huge tree fell towards the street.
When we bought the piece of land where my house was built later, this was part of the country and huge trees served as landmarks. My husband obtained the permit to cut 3 of them in the street in front of our house and plant smaller trees suited for a city. The rest of our block, 30 years later, still has those ancient trees. Many of them are not even healthy and none of them should be there.
Once in a while, is winter, a tree falls on a house or car causing damage or, worse still, they fall upon someone killing a person.
I have minor problems in this minute with this rain. Usually I have candles in every room. It is part of my preparation for a big earthquake. But during the last big rain I left candles on and I don´t have any more just in case. I like to keep some on at least in the bathroom. I promise I´ll go for candles as soon as this flood stops.
Meanwhile I´ll stay at home. Tonight, after all, I´ll make a Spanish tortilla. I already have a caramelized onion.
Now I´ll mylot a bit and then to the kitchen for my tortilla.

It was lucky. Every year, a tree or 2 fall at least on a parked car.

Glad you are safe..Hurricane Michael took out all the tall trees around our house..None fell on OUR house, but did on our Neighbor's houses. Only 1 pine tree from OUR yard fell on the neighbor's house on the left of us..Several trees in the other neighbor's yard fell on that house. It is hard to drive down the road and not see all those beautiful Oak and pine trees. Hope you can stay Safe..Prayers for you.

@marguicha True, but we had winds over 150 mph and the ground was wetl Still have a huge part of the root of that pine tree in my back yard..could not cut it apart until it dried some, then it dried too much and like a rock. The Pine tree come up out of the ground and landed on the roof of our neighbor. I think our landlord had to help pay her damages. At our neighbor's house on the other side of us had an Oak tree come out of the ground and land on his house...it wasn't real big. Down the street is some land with just trees..most of them either fell, or only half the tree is still there. The wind took out Cement Blocks of a wall of an office down the street. Hurricane Season starts the 1st of June...we are leaving next time one comes.

It would be better to have the government cut those trees for you. It is detrimental to one's life, limb and property. Who knows what will happen if they still stood there.
Of course, once it is cut, I find it essential to plant a new one in an area which no one becomes vulnerable once it grows big.

The government does not cut the treees. I don´t know why.

@marguicha That's weird. Our government cuts the trees here when found to be dangerous.

We had a rain/wind storm not long ago and one big tree limb fell in the yard not on the house. My great aunt had said that she fussed at my uncle for planting these types of trees because they have weak branches.

Every country has the native trees it needs. But people plant the trees they want.

The electricity came back very soon as compared to poor neighborhoods. I suppose that there are people here with the authority to have the company working.
