Almost a day with no light.

Just a little while after I wrote my last post, the light went out in my neighborhood. Trees had fallen over light posts. And although any person with medium intelligence would start to cut those old trees, here they are, doing damage. And it is not even that expensive. The authorities have the means, the people and the machine. The last time it rained, some neighborhoods were out of electricity for over 3 days. The company promised not to make people pay for those three days. But what about the ruined food? What about some electric gadgets? Lalely we don´t think only of water as important. Electricity is almost as important. There are many people now who work from home. How about them? And others can only do something with electricity. I cook, wash, make a cup of coffee and last but not least, enjoy myself thanks to it. I read, watch TV and have a warm house. Electricity should be a must in a civilized world. What do you think?

First of all, like with anything else, the world has become dependent upon electricity. Almost nothing works without it. With laptops, and portable battery packs, I'm covered in the event of a short power outage. I can hotspot from my phone if I want. Macs make that insanely easy. So, I'd still be able to work. Fridges are a wonderful invention, but With a little ice, towels, and just a little know how, you can make a makeshift anything. Power outages aren't anything new after all. The most important thing is you're safe and sound. Don't forget that. You can live without power (we did it for centuries before someone figured out how to make electricity after all), but nothing can replace a life lost.

I talked with my brother today about the lots of power outage we had as children. My mom would light a small paraffin lamp and we would sit around the dining room table. There she would recite endless poems to us.

@MarieCoyle My brother had no light either. He lives 2 houses away from mine. And even a friend who lives farther away had no light yesterday. So we had a phone visit as the cellphone was the only gadget that was working.

You need to have heat if it is cold outside and gas to heat your food

Certainly it is difficult to do without power nowadays. Some people here have two or three freezers. They lose a lot of food if the power goes out for too long.

After the last big earthquake I had no power for 3 days. Nothing got thawed because I did not open the freezer but still I threw away all the seafood.

I agree with you. Without electricity, we can't do much. Nothing works without electricity.

We are so dependent upon electricity in our days. A day with no light is surely a major problem. I hope it's fixed by now.

Losing electricity is very harmful since it is very hard not to have television, telephone and internet working not to mention not being able to see in the dark.

We depend on electricity for so many things. That's why I encouraged my husband to get a standby generator installed. Especially for the times that he's not around, the generator will go on automatically when the power goes out. So we have lights, power for the fridge and freezer, stove, TVs etc. Did yours go out as well? I hope not.
