preying mantis - wonderful creatures that took up living in our trailer this summer and we had a great time watching them feed on the flying insects in our home. Insteresting and so fascinating.
Actually I think I read somewhere that she bites it off so that he can finish the job. Still bleak for the male mantis in my opinion. We had several preying mantises come into the house this summer a first for us. I have several houseplants by this window by my computer and so when they moved in there were ever so entertaining. Some cultures think of them as good luck and perhaps they are since we now have a gentleman willing to organize help in rebuilding the burnt portion of the house.

I think it's true, she probably does it to store the extravitamins and proteins she needs for her babies, or maybe male preying mantis are just really annoying and she bites his head off to stop him nagging.
