Recently read an article in local news paper that a well trained dog has eaten the child in the absence of parents!!!! What do you think, can we trust them?

They are only animals, not babysitters. Where were the parents? This is indeed awful and should be lesson to everyone. We trust them as far as we know them and then also know that they will be really wha they are when we are gone. We are often their consience which is absent when we are.

I agree. They are only as good as we are when we are with them. Thanks for responding to my response.

Even I am wondered. Usually dogs are very trustable animals, but we dont know what they do in our absence. I feel we should be just careful !!

Sounds fishy, Why would a trained, fed dog turn on a child, and why was that child left alone with a dog for a sitter in the first place. Any animal will kill and eat something smaller if hungry enough. I think its either a lie, or those parentsshould be locked up for abandoning that child and dog.

Even I am amazed by reading the news. But dont know the reason why it happened. I guess the dog might have bite the kid when he tries to play with it.

I agree... most well behaved dogs don't attack unprovoked. No child should be left alone with an animal. Ever.

WE have had a lo of bad publicity in our country about pit bull terriers attacking children . I had 2 rough collies and they were so gentle with my sons when they were small , I think it depends on what breed they are . I must say though I am very wary of approaching all dogs nowadays where as when I was young I would have petted any dog , changed days xx

Why was this child left alone in the first place? Dog or no dog the parents should not have left the child unattended. It is diffucult to respond without a link to the acutal article and getting the details of what happened.

In general I trust domisticated animals. More than human beings. Surely. i have a doggy, he is domisticated and never harmed anyone, but once a little child took his ears with violence and he gave her a little bite. We have to pay attention even if they are domisticated. It happens sometimes that a dog ate a person, but not because of the "badness" of the dogs, but maybe because someone could train him with violence.

You have a different point to tell. Thank you for that. It is quite possible that the dog got affected by the badness of the person :)

Yes, thanks for sharing that information. I think we should be there when the child plays with dogs :)

we can not trust the animals.when the human race which thinks is superior to all animals themselves cannot be trusted

I have read some of the responses on this topic and I disagree. I have had dogs all of my life. It doesn't matter if they are well trained and get along good with people they will turn if provoked. My girlfriend had a dog for 10 years and it turned on her 2 year old. The little girl needed 70 stitches in her face. Trust no dog.

Most dogs will not turn on a person unless provoked or trained to do so. I have 4 dogs and I trust them very much, but that being said, if I had or have a child I would NEVER leave that child alone with my animals. You never know what a child might do to provoke an animal. The child doesn't know better but neither does the dog. You would probably defend yourself too if someone hurt you. I find it hard to belive though that a "well-trained" dog would attack a child.

Yes, the behaviour is strange. Better if we should be bit careful.
