Elspethr started a new discussion called Do you enjoy radio plays? in listener.
I have started to listen. I have Radio 4 Womens' Hour on now, about a Glaswegian woman journalist in the 1980s. I don't find radio easy to listen to - I find the voices annoying. I think it's to dowith English accents. This one's scottish and it's much better, and more natural. I am English but I don't like that gittish posh southern accent which sounds so false in theatre and radio, or the lis...

Elspethr started a new discussion called What was the last play you saw? in going to the theatre.
I saw Educating Agnes by Liz Lochhead by a local theatre co. I would like to go more often. this week there were three plays I wanted to see in one week - there were also David Harrower's Blackbird and Rain Man. I enjoy only serious drama, though I used to like alternative ballet. Let me know what you see an dhow often you go.

Elspethr started a new discussion called Is anyone going to their concerts? in a-ha.
They are in UK next week. Last week, they announced their intention to split next year, on their 25th anniversary. I am gutted! they have continued to make albums since them (epxcet a plit in the 1990s when they did solo work). Their lastest was released in the summer.

Elspethr started a new discussion called What's the best Bonfire Night film? in questions & answers.
This time of year meakes me think of V for Vendetta, which is about a vigilante who takes Guy Fawkes night as a symbol to once agin stop a totalitarian government. It's s mocing, provoking and empowering film. Have others seen it and do you like it?I've put more thoughts at cinemaroll.com. also under Elspeth R. Let me know your thoughts on that too

Elspethr responded to a discussion called Mylot book reports? in reading.
The last novel I read was The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. I didn't like it all but the talent of the writer is very evident. Have you seen the film of My Sister's Keeper? It ends differently. I am enjoying reading plays, and I have just purchased Doubt by John Patrick Shanley - it is masterful. I am also reading David Hare's early palys - the man who wrte the screenplay for the Reader. Don't g...

Elspethr responded to a discussion called When was the last time you watched a movie in a theater? in watching movies.
Two weeks ago. I am getting into theatre at present. I like to see a film or play each week. The last film I saw was Creation. I want to see The Soloist and there's a couple of things released at the end of next month which interest me, both period pieces

Elspethr responded to a discussion called Does Halloween Make You Uncomfortable? in religion.
I share your discomfort with Halloween though not exactly your faith. I also posted a qu on this - asking if it is something we should be celebrating. I don't open my door to unsolicited callers on Halloween, and it makes me angry that who's knocking or being on the street that night can be a concern. Finding the balance of not ruffling feathers is hard, when you don't agree with something. I...

Elspethr responded to a discussion called Which do you prefer? in reading.

E books endanger the book trade - publishers and booksellers and authoirs. When any form of media is availble for free on the net, it damages that industry. It means people's livelihoods and ability to express is being curtailed. E books are not more environmental. You can plant more trees. Often people pirnt off their e books which must cost as much as buying one - and then it isn't bound - ...
