My mother and I just went to the beach for the first time in about a year. We have lived in Florida our whole lives. No joke, 5 minutes into the trip into the water, my mother was stung by a stingray!! That was a week ago and since then there has been 2 trips to the hospital and 2 rounds of antibiotics! My cat is definetly not allowed on the kitchen table. The table and the couch are the only two places he cant go, so Im sure he'll be fine. Lol. He sleeps in bed and even has his own little pillow. I think its imporant to enforce at least a couple rules with your pets. If not, they will never listen and will take advantage.

No, you're right! Over here in Tampa,FL the water is constantly tested for overgrowth in bacteria and fungi. They have even shut down the beaches due to bacteria and pollution. It is defenitley not safe for children anymore.
