Free shipping in the United States.
Learn about Italian-American Culture! - Though many Americans are aware of the presence of Italian-American culture in our society, I think that many of them would be surprised to learn that it is a truly independent culture, which contains many of its own customs that are not present in Italy--rather than just being an American representation of Italian culture. In other words, when Italians emigrated to the United States, they developed many customs that were not part of their lives before they came here, creating a culture that is independent of any other, complete with an entirely separate dialect that does not exist in Italy.

Laurie1986 responded to a discussion called Which is your favorite show in tv.

I'm really into "Modern Family" this season. It's a new show on ABC and it's very funny and touching. The premise has been done to death, but the execution is very fresh and witty and the dialogue is great. I think it's going to be one of those shows that lasts a long time because it has a lot of heart, and if you can put that into your show, it's a lot easier to win over American audiences. Th...

Laurie1986 responded to a discussion called Internet Survival in internet.

Many of us could not. My biology teacher used to say that once our society advances in technology, we cannot go back. This holds true with the ease of access to information that is brought to us through the Internet. As society advances, it's almost like we sign a contract that we can never go back to the way things were.

Laurie1986 responded to a discussion called Oprah Wrapping Up in watching television.
This is such big news in the world of media. Oprah Winfrey has made such an enormous accomplishment. A woman not born into money or prestige of any kind, who built an empire based on her own talent and drive. I know she rubs some people the wrong way because she's kind of overexposed, but it should be difficult for anyone to deny how impressive she is in terms of what she has built and the trus...

Laurie1986 responded to a discussion called Uninsured Twice As Likely to DIE in the ER in politics.

Great discussion starter, Annie. Even if this were not true (and, really, who's surprised?), the emergency room is only a fix if you need emergency care. If you break your arm, you can go to the ER and get it set and get some pain meds. If you get cancer, you can't keep going back to the ER for chemo. If you get diabetes, you can't go back to the ER several times a day to get your insulin--a...

Laurie1986 responded to a discussion called What is the Loss to MyLot"if members Promote their referral Links in Discussion in questions & answers.
If you're privately exchanging information, that's a different story. If myLot allowed people to place affiliate links or referral links in the discussions, this place would become nothing more than an advertising board in ten minutes. There's nothing wrong with advertising boards, but that's not what this website was intended to be.

Laurie1986 commented in a discussion called Partners who go off the deep end...how do you deal with it? in relationships.
And what if he doesn't see reason? You're talking about men in general, not men with PTSD and serious anger issues. If he is in a prolonged state of disturbed thinking, then his "heat of the moment" is going last much longer than the typical moment. It might be long enough to drive there and do something he'll later regret--once you shoot somebody, you can't take it back. She's doing the right ...

Laurie1986 commented in a discussion called There are men who do work on their marriage! in relationships.
I agree completely. What a refreshing story. We hear so much about how nobody puts any value into marriage anymore, and nobody cares about relationships and they'd rather just give up, get divorced/break up and start a new one. Apparently this guy never got that memo, and I think that's terrific. I hope his wife understands how lucky she is to have him.

Laurie1986 commented in a discussion called do you rally think that the color black in clothes makes you look slim? in clothes.
I think it does work, but only to a minimum--and you're correct: when faced with a choice, it's so much better to wear a properly fitting white outfit than a horribly tight (or baggy) black one. That said, when choosing between two properly fitting outfits, one black and one white, the black one will probably make you seem slimmer. I like Spanx, myself.:)

What is Your Favorite Jim Croce Song?

He's such a terrific artist. I know everyone says "Time in a Bottle," and I love that song, but I think my favorite is "Lover's Cross," with "These Dreams" and "I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song"...
