 Yes, there have been several times during my life when I just felt I wanted to give up. On a relationship and on a situation where I felt that continuing was just leading nowhere at all.

 I wouldn't worry too much. When I was 12 years old, I had a girlfriend and had some strong feeling for her. Unfortunately, she was not staying in my country and we had a painful parting.
This was back in the 1960s and I dare not tall my parents in those days. I went through many weeks of emotional pain and never told anyone why I was feeling that way.

 If I was to discover a friend's secret it would be because he/she had told me that secret, and I would never reveal it to anyone else. If it was something that could hurt another friend I would tell my friend (with the secret) not to tell me, because I would feel obliged to warn the other friend who was in line to be hurt.
