dld999 started a new discussion called It's Totoro!.

I can not believe that there are no discussions for Totoro! (maybe there's some under My Neighbor Totoro but I'm too lazy to look...) This is perhaps the BEST animated movie ever! Including all of what Pixar has done - and that is saying a lot! Family. Parents. Siblings. Friendship. Nature. Spirit. Co-

I'm a guy and I had an interesting experience in Japan. Our bus had stopped at a roadside coffee house. Anyway, the restroom for men was just a big square building with the type of open urinal that runs from the floor drain up halfway up the wall. It's all metal. To get in through the rather large open (no door) entrance, you had to politely elbow your way through the wives standing in the do...

dld999 responded to a discussion called Would you like to visit a beach, a moutain or a city? in travel.

I would to go down to the purple sand beach in Big Sur, California. It is Pfeiffer State beach I think. Or perhaps up near Bodega Bay, California. For mountains, I'd love to see Mt Fuji in Japan, perhaps next year after winter has come and gone. Otherwise, Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada's in California/Nevada is beautiful all year round. For cities, I'm leaning toward Barcelona, Tokyo/Kyoto,...

What a great topic. Thank you! The two books that I re-read more often than any others when I was young were Charlotte's Web and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I highly recommend them!

dld999 responded to a discussion called Do You Think Books Will Become A Part Of The Past? in reading.

I guess that I look at your question a bit differently from some of the others who responded. When you talk about books as an information resource, then yes, I think that printed information-oriented books will begin to go away. In the case of text books, the world is changing too fast. It's been said that by the time college students reach their junior year, half of what they learned in the fi...

dld999 responded to a discussion called When travelling do you take your passport with you wherever you go? in travel.

In foreign countries I keep my passport with me. Sometimes the hotel wants to keep it but I make sure to hold onto it. Get a passport pouch that can hold some money and credit cards that you can keep around your neck but under your clothes where you can't be pickpocketed. Don't put any metal with it (coins, keys, etc.) and you can go through security metal scanners without removing it. Never ha...

I like the Tiger and Del books by Jennifer Roberson. They start with Sword Dancer I think. Good fantasy series.

Every action causes a reaction, even if we don't understand the reaction or even if we deny the evidence of the reaction. In general, we are using up resources and we treat the earth as a dumping ground. It's very sad to see the litter and destruction of nature. As for what will happen? I guess that we'll all see. I think that we'll see it in our lifetimes. The next generation of people may ha...
