Before the Arcanum Fire Department arrived to put out the fire, neighbors managed to rescue the dog and get the animal out of the burning home. The fire was extinguished quickly. The preliminary investigation shows that the cause of the fire was a stove malfunction that started in the kitchen and spread throughout the house. Thank goodness that no one was hurt in the house fire. The severity of the damage is not known. We were 4 adults and 2 children. We took the train as it would be difficult to park if we rode with our car. The ride was only an hour from our station. It was a fun day for us to experience a Japanese day event. There are many Japanese living and working in Düsseldorf as well as Japanese supermarkets and restaurants. There were many German people wearing Japanese dresses and Kimonos as well as many were wearing Anime costumes. I suppose it was the time to show off how people love Japanese culture and tradition. The city and at the Rhine river, where the event took place, were full of people that it was difficult for us to pass through. Many were selling Japanese food at the sidewalks. Restaurants at the Altstadt (old city) were also full. We didn’t wait for the fireworks that took place at the Rhine because we had to wait to get it dark. So we went home after feeling tired and exhausted from a lot of walking. Honestly, I wouldn’t visit that event again next year. It was the first time I experienced it. I was about to collapse smelling stinky people passing by. It was 28 degrees Celsius yesterday. Maybe that is why, a lot of smelly people. Maybe, I just have a very sensitive nose. I read @innertalks discussion about the experienced being here in our country, Philippines. It reminded me about the garbage in one of the place nearby to our staycation spot. The place was a hidden paradise away from people's attention but after pandemic the place was shared through social media by a few visitors. Then, it creates a buzz. Swarm by people who excitedly shoot for vlog content, reels, photos to show off in their feeds on different social media. Everything has been filtered, no one shared a bit of the garbage left by some undescipline visitor's who litters everywhere. A small community allowed everyone to have access freely into their place but in return people left a large amount of trash and waste behind. The sad and ugly reality everywhere. It is about people so there has to be. Last night the show I watched featured a real live birth. I don't know how they did it, and transposed all the TV doctors with what had to have been real medical staff in there. I think they probably just showed parts of the delivery and cut the TV docs in the scene. There were disclaimers about the nudity and the childbirth warning people..about it. However, I thought it was amazing. I have never seen a drama like the Pitt before. A friend invited me to stay in Tablas Island, and I was both excited and nervous because it was my first time traveling that far from home. Back then, traveling was not as easy and convenient as it is today, so the trip itself already felt like a big adventure for me. We travelled by ship which took around 10-12 hours, we were at aicrcon bunk bed with many passengers. When we finally arrived, I was amazed by the beauty of the island. The beaches were peaceful, the surroundings were relaxing, and the people were very warm and friendly. It was also my first time experiencing the culture and lifestyle in the Visayas, and I enjoyed every moment of it. We took the extended family, 12 people, to what was supposed to be a high end restaurant, costing nearly 1200 pesos (around $30 Australian) each. It was a toxic disaster for me. Plastic everywhere. The meal was served on an outdoor table, in our own pavilion, that had a plastic screen, all around it to stop mosquitoes getting in, l guessed. There was an old plastic tablecloth, fixed to the table, with the menus underneath it, a semi permanent fixture, it seemed. Car, truck, fumes, were high, from nearby roads, and movement, in the carpark. They had also spread thousands of old reused plastic flowers all around for Mother's day, l thought, as it was Mother's day, the next day. But, then the food came out. Plastic old, reused, scratched, plates, plastic serving dishes, old scratched, peeling, too. Plastic knifes, and forks. Plastic drink jugs, and the food stews, soups, steaming hot, were in old aluminium large pots. The aluminium was bad enough, leaching aluminium into foods, from their acidic vinegar heavy dishes, but the plastics, giving off millions of particles of microplastics, and toxic fumes, phthalates, and other chemical compounds, etc, was a disaster. Of course, all of the Filipinos knew no better, they lapped it all up, until full. After all, it was their signature dishes, pinakbet, containing pumpkin, vegetables, dried fish, noodles, plenty of rice, etc. I ate nothing, except when the fruit came out, again on a plastic dish, l risked taking a piece of papaya, an alkaline fruit, not the pineapple, it being moist, and acidic, it would have been far worse. When the bill came to me, it was handed to me in a small plastic black tray, and it was printed on thermal paper, a very dangerous medium to use, especially if you handle it before eating. Full of poisons, your hands absorb, straight into bloodstream, made worse if you ignorantly clean your hands with a hand sanitizer, which increases absorption then, manifoldly more. I paid it, and then l went straight to the toilet, to wash my hands, with soap and water, but as the liquid soap was in an old plastic container, l only used water. To cap off a bad night, at the end of the night, they put the leftovers in plastic bags, to take home. The food had already been in the hot steamy air, for two hours, and with the 2 hour drive home, to me, it was now inedible, but they ate it for their breakfast the next morning, and again, the next day too, even offering me some, which l refused. Scientists tell us that with all the ingested plastics in us, our brains are now close to 1 percent plastic, but in the Philippines, in those sorts of toxic soups, their brains must, unfortunately, contain way more than that. Hubby is blind partially due to doctors not understanding totally what was safe. He was one of thousands of premature babies being put into an incubator that had too much oxygen. That messed with his sight big time. My Mother reported to me that a mammogram hurts like you don't want to know about. That put me off from having the test done. I just found out that the expensive machines we modern people deal with are kinder. Thank God. But that's exactly what I thought happened to mine yesterday. When my daughter got home from work, she asked me what that noise was coming from the closet where the A/C handler is. I told her I didn't hear anything, but when I opened the closet door I could hear what she heard...dripping water. And worse, my coils were starting to freeze over. Ugh, not good at all. I started with the easiest diagnosis, in that the drain pan was overflowing because the drain line was clogged. Grabbed the wet/dry vac and headed outside and hooked it up to the drain line. Sure enough, globs of moldy water came pouring out after a few minutes of suction. I ended up sucking out lots and lots of water, then went back in and checked the drain pan. All the water gone. I put a chem tab in (helps keep mold and mildew from building up in the drain line), left the A/C off for an hour to let the coils thaw, then turned it back on and hoped for the best. Thankfully, all is well and the A/C is running again, nice and cool, and the pan is draining as it should. Crisis averted. And I didn't have to call an HVAC technician and spend oodles of money to fix the A/C. It never fails that something breaks just when you need it most! I normally am getting home about the time that the traffic starts to pick up, today it was already busy when I left, and it got busier. We had to go out to the farmer's market this morning. The parking lot isn't paved and being a dirt lot, without stones, it was muddy. My favorite apples, yellow delicious, are all done for the season from the vendor we prefer to buy from. They are a winter pack variety and they are out until about October. We had to take the car in for an oil change. All I can say is thanks Trump, that cost us almost $200. The money that my hubs saved yesterday by going out to the reservation to buy tax-free gasoline was eaten up today while getting the oil change. I just opened the patio door and turned off the heat. Yes, I had it on for a little while. I live in the coldest apartment in the complex right next to the underground parking garage with the door that opens every few minutes. There's a nice gentle breeze and the birds are chattering in the trees. Every year we get a new variety of birds in the trees. My first year here they were the morning doves. Last year it was crows. This year we have cardinals and blue jays. It's nice to hear their soft chirping compared to the loud caws of the crows. I haven't seen the blue jays yet. My neighbor has. I've seen the cardinals and the robins. So, right now, I'm going to try to get caught up with the notifications before I get back to New Horizons - Beginning. I was seeing her, eyeing her, because I could not take my eyes off her, from near the door. I had not boarded the bus. Meanwhile the scene changes. I see a sick girl, take her in my arms and lay her down somewhere attending to her while I let a boy play with a ball. The girl lay unconscious. Then Tuesday she called him apologizing for her meltdown and saying she actually does realize that she needs to be there and that she actually likes it there to some extent because the people are so nice to her. Her 81 year old best friend picked her up while I was gone and took her to her own apartment and made her lunch one day, but when I got back the Memory Care facility told me that the friend wasn't competent enough to be responsible for taking my MIL off-property so I had to call MIL's best friend and kindly and gently explain to her that she can't take MIL out anymore but she can go and visit her. Then last night (Friday 5/22) she called and said they ran out of food/she didn't get a food tray in her name from the catering truck and she didn't get dinner last night. The fish was excellently roasted, and I asked for a second helping as well as another can of beer. SOOOO..tonight I decided to try something different. I cut up half an onion, put in about a tsp of crushed garlic in oil, put some Olive Oil and a large pat of butter in a skillet. Cut up some sausage. Put the Onion and garlic in the Hot skillet on low medium heat, let that cook while I put the garlic rolls on a pan. Then I put in the sausage and cooked it on one side of the skillet while the Onions cooked on the other side. Stirred them together and added the left over Shredded Cole Slaw stirred it all together, put the lid on and let her cook. Went and got the rolls ready, then stirred up the cabbage and added some Bacon Bits. Let it simmer on low. Put the rolls in the toaster oven and waited. OMG it was SOOOOO Good! But next time I might put in just a tiny bit of SoySauce. I put salt and pepper in it, but it just really needed something else. The carrots in the Cole Slaw mix gave it a little sweetness. Things only got worse after that report. The place is staffed by lovely people but it is wholly inadequate for the number of passengers it serves. At one stage we were herder like cows into a holding pen, about 300 people, but the amount of seating meant that most people had to sit on the floor. There was little ventilation in spite of the fact that the temperature was 30C. It was an abysmal experience, especially for older people like my wife and I and our learning disabled daughter who finds crowds and noise difficult. Sitting on the floor was not part of our holiday plan. The airport management knew how many flights there would be and how many people would be in the airport; it was not a surprise to them. Furthermore our plane was delayed and the queues and crowds grew louder and hotter. We got to Dublin feeling rather jaded and then had to face a two and a half drive to get home. There was a further delay when my car refused to start at the airport car park. Fortunately, the airport has a mechanic who can be phoned and he starts people’s cars for them when their batteries are flat after not being used for two weeks or so. It is just that there is really no place nearby to shop except for a convenience store and gas station. The Atlantic and the beach are not far, but then I think about how far I am away from home. So for now it is what it is, but then when I think, say, another five years of this, things might start getting to the point where I might want to just hope it won't be for too much longer. I finished The Deal by Elle Kennedy last night and I absolutely loved it. I can't wait to watch it on prime now. They say it did the book justice even though they did change some things. Would it really be a book to movie adaptation if things weren't changed though? The new Nora Roberts book should be here Thursday and I get a new ARC from Carrie Ann Ryan the 26th I believe. I asked for two pillows behind my back. It wasn't doing so well this morning and those hard hospital recliners don't make it easy on a back that is already in full flare. I walked out of there at 10:30. Then it was a stop at Aldi for vegetables to go with my meals. I need something on my plate besides meat and fish. I didn't have a lot left on my FoodShare card, so I figured I would get the most for my money there, and did. I got what I needed with a few cents to spare on the card. [em]thumbup[/em] By the time we got home, my back was in full flare. I was also hungry. I hadn't eaten more than an apple with almond butter before we left. It was already after noon when we got home. I say we because my neighbor is my driver for all my appointments. I don't have a car. So, we naturally go everywhere together. After breakfast for lunch, I settled against the heating pad, watched a show I was falling asleep to, paused it, settled the recliner in full recline position, let the heat settle into my back, and enjoyed thirty minutes of sleep. After I finished watching the episode, I turned on the computer and got a little bit of work done on New Horizons - Beginning. This is coming along well. The 1st part of our visit wasn't so thrilling cause we didn't do anything but ride around the area to look at how much it had changed since we moved out of Fla, 2008 but I DID get some things to take home. I got some good looking rocks for the fish tanks I got some live oak limbs (2) 1 about 2ft long & another 1 a little longer (NOT) for the fish tanks. I got some Fla Moss & LOTS of sea shells for the pond, I also got me some popcorn trees that I'm HOPEING will grow, seen some AWESOME sights in Tallahassee, some HUGE manatees. Some awesome looking live oak trees & took a boat ride tour to see the alligators up close & the light house & went to the beach it was a blast. When my girlfriend in Tallahassee sends me some of the photos she took I'll post them on here for you I would have taken some but she's better at it than I am so I just let her take the photos to send to me. I'm Glad we went to Tallahassee last B-4 coming home cause that's where the REAL fun started out. it cost a little over 200$ to & back home [em]thumbup[/em] & that's with ALL the running around we done. It consisted of chopped, home canned tomatoes, cooked macaroni of any type or shape, salt, pepper, and a spoonful of sugar. Sugar? Yes, sugar. If they had bacon drippings, a spoonful of that went into the pot. People who make in now, often jazz it up a lot more than they were able to during the depression. Now there are recipes to add meats, cooked bacon, onions, etc. And of course, so many people also toss cheese on everything now, too. But son just wanted it ''how Grandma Lucy fixed it!'' so that's what I made. I left out the bacon drippings, we neither one wanted that. He has had a really bad week, has barely eaten anything for days...but he ate this! Two bowls full. I call it a win, he asked for it, and he ate it and had a second helping. I’ve been meaning to post another Gratitude Challenge, but between work, outside plans, and the unbearable heat, I just never got around to it. Sooo, here I am! :) 1. Donnie Wahlberg tweeted with us (fans) during Boston Blue last Friday, and I got a few group tweets and a solo tweet. I meant to post this earlier, so yeah, I’m a week late haha. Also, the episode itself was so good. 2. I went to the gym with my sister twice last week. It was so nice to get active and even burn off some anxiety. We may not have time to go next week, but we’ll see what happens. 3. I finished Tim Curry’s audiobook and started Stephen King’s “Carrie” (audiobook). I’ve finished the intro and two chapters so far, and I’m really enjoying it. 4. I had a lot of fun with my friends (my niece and “The Coffee Shop Crew,” as I’ll call them, since one is another regular and two work there with my niece). We went to Yahtzee Night on Monday (and I got the restaurant’s yummy crab pretzel), and sat around chatting for a while after. Last night, a few of us played pool before Trivia Night. I love their vibes, and we’re always laughing. 5. Despite the a/c being broken this week, I’m grateful for the time I spend at the coffee shop. Once again, I enjoy the vibes, and just getting into my zone. 6. Work (freelance writing) has been going well for the most part. They accidentally sent payments early yesterday, plus the usual Monday and Thursday payments, so that was actually convenient for me lmao. 7. The temperature dropped, so I can enjoy the spring/fall-like weather for a while. Wow, what a list lol. I hope you all have even one thing, no matter how big or small, to be grateful for today. I know I have not shared about any games in a while. However, this is a game that came out more recently. It has been on Steam (platform where you buy digital games) and I was waiting for it to get controller support. I play most of the games through another platform where you can play them on a phone, or tablet...etc - at least until we have computers that have the capacity to play these bigger file games. So, I need the games to have controller support. Anyways - what is Retro Rewind about? Do you remember places like Blockbuster? Did you ever rent movies? This game is a simulator where you run your own VHS movie rental store. That may sound boring, but it is pretty fun. You can even open up selling slushies, popcorn, and cotton candy. Eventually you get arcade games to add to your store. There are lots of expansions to make your store huge. You even check in the movies, and some come back unwound and you have to rewind them! Movies even get returned 'broken' and you get to open up a machine to fix them. There is quite a lot to it, even though it sounds pretty simple. She has not got cancer. But The blood tests did show what we already knew from tests done in about 2008 Yvonne does Indeed have Cystic Fibrosis - not a carrier , but both faulty genes making it the full blown condition We already knew. We knew her heritage, her bloodline and everything else the blood tests all those years ago showed up. The combination of faulty genes Yvonne has , is very rare - shared by only a handful of people globally. What difference will knowing this make to Yvonne and her future care. Well one tablet per day extra because most of the medications for CF and COPD overlap. The doctor was very pleased with her today. Her saturations were 98% Her BP normal Her Heart rate excellent And her weight quite healthy although up on 6 months ago So that's the update Thanks to everyone who responded to my last post. The temperature dropped back down to the 60s, and it’ll mostly be in the 60s/70s for the next week or so. It’s also going to be rainy for the next few days. While I do enjoy Mr. Sun, we probably need the rain. Plus, I’ll take this fall-like (or early spring-like) weather over a real feel of 100 degrees any day. I’m loving every minute of this cooler weather. My friend (who’s also a barista) just closed the side door at the coffee shop, but the front door is still open. Yes, I have my jacket on, but I’m enjoying the change from yesterday. It’s cool but not cold. Plus, certain areas of the coffee shop are still warm, so it’s not like it’s freezing in here. But we’ve already established that I cannot handle the blistering, near-100-degree weather, so let’s just move on lol. It’s also cooler in my house, so I know our pets (especially my elderly dog) are happier. The dogs were uncomfortable, and the cats were lying on the floor like they were melting. Poor babies. I’m so glad it’ll be cooler for a bit. I hope we’ll have the main a/c in at home by the time the next heat wave hits. The temperature drop is why it hasn’t been put in yet. Well, that, and it’s a bigger window, and my brother-in-law recently hurt his arm at work (he’ll be okay). Someone would help him, but still, it’s not worth the risk of furthering the injury when we would’ve only needed it for 3-4 days. In other news, I'm hoping to be productive today. I have my water, grape Powerade (I wanted to finish it off, so I bought it with me), and my warm coffee (my first since last week). Plus, my Spotify and headphones. There’s plenty of work to choose from, and I’m thinking of continuing to work when I get home. The last Chief Minister (a woman herself) is worthy of praise for alloting such ladies only compartments and for running a whole train for women. The two women of my family travelled up and down in the 'ladies compartment' recently and I am glad to declare that they had no complaint of being touched or pushed inappropriately during the journey. Undoubtedly, social norms in Europe, England, Australia, Canada and America are quite different. It was raining cats and dogs. It seems heaven prepared me for the Irish weather. I was glad there was no traffic jam that I arrived 2 hours before my flight to Dublin. I checked in online the night before I flew and so I only had to drop off my luggage. Travelling alone made me nervous and I had to be careful not to miss the right Boarding Gate. It was a 20 minutes walk to my boarding gate. I was glad I was and still is good by foot. The flight was only 1 hour and 15 minutes. I arrived in Dublin airport on time and I still had 2 hours to wait until my Aircoach bus drove to Cork city. Guess what the weather was in Dublin! [em]w00t[/em] I had time to check what was new in Dublin airport since I last flew from there to Germany 14 years ago. Nothing much change but it’s modernised. The drive from Dublin airport to Cork city was 3 1/2 hours. It stopped only once in the city center to collect some passengers. There were lots of tourists inside the bus and the most loud of them all were the Italians. I was so tired so I was still able to sleep a bit. I was glad that I went 3 times in the comfort room in the airport before my bus travel. I noticed that there was no toilet at all inside the bus. Yes, they have internet but didn’t use it. I could charge my phone but I had to use USB charger and so I didn’t do it as well. When I arrived in Cork Aircoach Bus Station, my cousin and her husband were there already. They helped me with my luggage and off we drove to their home. It was a long day travel for me and I was grateful that I arrived safely. I was so hungry. But I did need to do my weekly big shop, so I toddled off down to Morrisons, which is my main supermarket. I've just adopted a system where I do my shopping in two parts. First, the actual main shop, I got everything I needed and paid at a manned till. Business as usual. Once I'd dumped the main shop into the boot of my car, I picked up a pound bag of 2p coins that I keep in there and headed back into the supermarket to do the second part. No need for a trolley or basket, I just walked in and took one item - a packet of instant noodles, 30p marked down from 35p. Yes, I do eat fancy, don't I? So this time I took the packet of noodles to one of the self-checkouts, scanned my More card as usual, scanned the packet, then paid with some of those 2p coins. The reasons I've started doing this are primarily to get rid of a pile of old coins that I've got at home, but also to supply myself with a second receipt - so then I've got two receipts to run through the various receipt scanning apps that I've got on the phone. Plus two chances to do the survey and enter the £500 prize draw that's advertised on Morrisons receipts. Every little helps. But there was one difference to this particular transaction - whoever used that self-checkout before me must have been distracted, because they left £3.50 in the change tray. Which I took, obvously. So I ended up with more money after buying that packet of instant noodles than before. He states that after this 2026 season, he will be retiring. The main reason he came back is because McCarthy was named the new head coach of the Steelers. Rodgers and McCarthy were a team in Green Bay and they're hoping to make one last Superbowl run during this year. Personally it's a bittersweet moment. On one hand I really really....REALLY dislike Rodgers and I'm excited to see him retire. Then again on the other hand it's also the closing of another era. I think Flacco is the only one left from when I started watching football...my generation. Everything must come to an end I guess. I'm just happy he FINALLY made a decision and that next year we won't be wondering what's going on. So she came in and first verbally berated the 17 year old employee, then physically struck the 17 year old worker. A 20 year old worker stepped in and she also punched that worker. A fight ensued until two other employees broke it up. The 75 year old woman pulled a handful of hair out of the worker's head. After the fight, the 75 year old sat at a table while presumably police were called. 10 minutes later the elderly woman collapsed on the floor and died. The family is blaming Tim Horton's. I am blaming the old lady who started the fight. My granddaughter got married last Saturday and I´m just recovering from the wedding. First were the 2 days prior to it trying to think about what to wear. And of course, as it always happens, I had other situations to cope with at the same time. Two families came to see the house. Nothing is happening with it and I´m thinking about lowering the price. Then it was the marriage. Very beautiful but I was either seated in wooden chairs or standing up for long minutes. My granddaughter was stunning wearing a silk and gauze dress that was designed and made by my daughter Claudia. She wore ivory silk pants with a big waistband and oriental looking and a beautiful upper part, very tight. Over it, she wore a gauze coat long and golden. First there was a beautiful ceremony in which friends talked about how they had met and their romance. (The chairs were wood with no pillows for this old lady). Then there was a cocktail with appetizers. There was champagne but I had decided not to drink. I used my brother and my brother in law as canes for some time as it was standing. Finally I saw some wooden chairs and went to sit alone. A kind waiter brought me refreshments and appetizers until my brother and Claudia´s BF came to take the chair near the rest of the people that talked near a heater. Then there was a dinner with food that was cold. Not my idea of happiness when we are heading towards winter. Rodrigo, Claudia´s BF, was seated by my side and ate a great part of my food. Again wooden chairs now with a thin and hard pillow. There were many people mostly young and after dinner the music started and they went to dance. The music was something they call reggaeton which for me was like going back to the caves. I found a sofa and for the first time in the night has my coxis placed where it did not hurt. There I decided to wait until the end of time. My brother who has taken me had told me that he was going to dance until 2 AM. The wedding was in the outskirts of the city so I was not going to call an Uber and spend a lot of money retiring earlier. The sofa was far from the source of the deafening music so that it was even enjoyable from the distance. Fortunatly my brother danced for 10 minutes just to say that he had done it and called it a day. And we came back. I took an extra Celecoxib before going to bed. I came back wondering who had paid for such a big party. The place was expensive and the amount of people big. Carolina´s father was seated in front of me during dinner with his new wife. He was as handsome as ever but his wife looked a lot older than Claudia. Maybe he had paid for the wedding? Then my other question was why did they get married. The couple had been living together for several years. I know of no legal reason in my country that would benefit them to get married. Were they going to start a family? Friends, the wedding was wonderful for everyone but my poor butt. Today is the first day that I feel that it doesn´t hurt so much. It'll be about a hundred all together. It's not bad but if I can get them with points offline it'll make it easier on us. I'm still trying to sell stuff online. I've made a few but I need to get some of the bigger pieces out of grams. I know that I'm asking a lot for pop's dressers but they're in great shape and worth it. It will also pay for the floor if I could get what I'm asking for. I worked on earrings yesterday for the shop. Wolves and I'll be pressing them today. I have horses and butterflies ready to go now, I just need to get more earrings lol. I'll be able to fill in some of the blank space in the spinning rack now. This week I'm going to try to stock up on some of the items I sell so I have blanks. I may just start making things at random again lol. I'm hoping that the shop picks up soon. We stayed with my brother-in-law and helped him build a garden shed. We are all into DIY (do it yourself) projects and welcomed the chance to help with the shed. We've helped each other out many times over the years. He’s had the shed in a flatpack for well over twelve months so it was good to help him erect it. He’d already levelled and paved a base for it. We got there around 10am on Wednesday and by around 5pm, we had the walls up and only the roof to go. We finished the roof this morning and I then helped him prune some of his roses. The photo shows the shed site on the left and the finished shed on the right. You can just see the door handle at Vince’s elbow. The roof is a very shallow gable. The two of them were walking on the path below the bedroom window, the female ahead and looking here and there for interesting things and the male behind keeping an eye out on everything around. The place was packed and it was a good thing that we had a reservation. I had the wild steak cuts which was served with a side salad and soup. I must admit that there were parts of the steak that were tough but over-all it was good. I paired my steak with their wasabi mayo and wasabi mustard sauce. it gave just enough heat to the steak. Last week my partner randomly bumped into an old friend he hasn’t seen for years and he invited her for dinner this evening. So it seemed like a good opportunity to make the cake today. I got the recipe out of my folder, put the plums in the fridge to defrost and checked that we had the ingredients; we had everything except enough nuts, so when I was out today I bought a bag. Then once I was home I weighed out the flour, sugar and butter and started mixing. I had creamed those together and went to get the eggs when I found we only had two left and I needed three. I knew we had enough last time I looked, so I went to ask my partner. Turned out he had completely forgotten about the cake-making, even though he asked me earlier whether I had defrosted the plums, and the recipe was on the kitchen counter. He knew we were due a regular delivery of 30 eggs tomorrow morning so he thought it would be fine if he ate a couple of boiled eggs for lunch, and so as to be energy-efficient he boiled a couple extra as well for tomorrow. I was not impressed. I didn’t really want to have to go to the shop, and I didn’t want to buy a box of six because then we’d have five spare, plus another 30 tomorrow, and we’re going to be away quite a lot of next week! Luckily in the end a friend was able to come to my rescue with a spare egg. I will return it with a slice of cake tomorrow! I admit that I haven't kept up with my usual indoor tanning routine over the winter. I've also been dealing with health and stress issues. I don't know if I'm under more stress or less. I *have* been on a stupid amount of prescription medications for the past several weeks. My facial skin is a hot mess! Red in spots, dry in spots, whiteheads all over the place, etc. This is NOT normal for me. I've been using gentle scrubbing philosophy cleanser. I've been using face masks. Nothing is helping. . . and no I'm not overdoing it. I don't know what the issue is but I am not happy about it. I'm hoping that regular exposure to UV light while driving in my convertible and spending time at the pool. I'm ready to book a facial though. I knew that it wouldn't hurt. The spa music, darkened room, zero-gravity chairs, and aromatherapy was nice. I can't say that I noticed any real improvement due to it but like I said the experience was enjoyable. The district's health clinic offers acupuncture so I decided to try it out there. The practitioner is an older man who loves to talk. [em]lol[/em] He spent a lot of time explaining things to me. In all honesty, I could have done with less of it. He asked me what my goals are, he looked at my tongue, and then he got to work. We decided to focus on my GI and neuropathy issues. He said to give it 3-4 sessions to see if the treatments have a beneficial effect for me. There was no music or aromatherapy or darkened lights. There also was no pain. What I found interesting was that after placing the needles (9 total) like 5 or 8 minutes later he rotated them. He told me to let him know if I was in pain but I wasn't. I did feel a bit of a pinch with some of them but it was fine. Then he came back in, repeated the process, and let me chill for about 10 minutes before removing them. I made an appointment to return next week. If I do not do that by June 1st then whatever new price they decided to set for me is going to be in effect, which is not what I want. I didn’t even know I had to do that until I accidentally saw the message when I logged into my account. They should’ve emailed me about it. I thought this whole process of updating book prices would be quick and easy but not the case. I was able to update the prices for most of my books, but for the first four books the system is not letting me do it. Turns out that because my books have been published a long time ago in order to update the prices I have to re-upload the interior book file and the book cover file for each of these books. Only then will I be able to change the price. Also, the book projects are in unpublished draft status, which means I’ll have to republish them. This makes absolutely no sense to me. I shouldn’t have to do all this just to change the price of the books. And my book projects should not have been changed to unpublished draft just to make sure that all my distribution requirements are met. The books are already in distribution. I have yet to tackle this, but I have a feeling that I’m going to have issues when I do this. The doctor also said there were no signs that IT has spread anywhere else. The park is about 75 acres in size, and is shaped like a T. There is a decent size creek running through the middle of it. Even though I live within city limits, my area of town is suburbia at its best, heavily wooded, sparsely developed, and full of nature parks. As I was walking, I spotted a coyote standing in a field at the edge of the woods. Not too big a deal, as I’ve seen coyotes at night quite frequently. But this is the first one I’ve seen during the day. Another park patron brought their little yappi dog over to the field and let it off the leash to run around. The little yappi dog spotted the coyote immediately and made a beeline towards it. The coyote stood there quietly, but when the little dog got close the coyote got aggressive and bit the little dog. Nothing ferocious, the little dog seemed to have a hurt ego more than anything, but it was still interesting to see. I don’t think the coyote was rabid, but I do hope the dog owner took the little dog to the vet to check for rabies. What do you think could have been going on with the coyote in the park during the day? We could not go in person because he only got a few tickets to hand out. We got to see it via live stream though. Saturday is his half-sister; my full cousin's wedding ceremony. She's marrying a man she met the first time she went on a trip to South Korea. He's even been to the states a few times to visit us. Sadly, after that they are returning to South Korea. It's rough because she was like a sister to me growing up. Then it is Memorial Day on Monday. We'll take flowers to the graves of those we have lost. Not sure if we'll do that Sunday or Monday. Then next Wednesday is my son's last day of 6th grade! I also have a doctor's appointment the first week of June, so can't wait until that's over, so if it could just be June 3rd now lol.... It appears that we're going to change a lot of how we do what we do. A new app will be introduced as of next month. With this I may get a shot at more shifts which I'm loving the possibility. We are waiting for the official word on the pay but we are very hopeful that it'll go through. As for today, I'm running slightly behind. We were up at 3am this morning. He has overtime for the rest of the week so I just started up. Computer work was started, I was running videos because as I was working on that I was also working on new earrings for the shop. Wolf earrings this morning but we'll have horse ones soon. The shop will be doing a big Father's Day push soon. Hopefully we'll get some sales from that. I had to get my fingerprints done today so I was late getting to work. It made me a little behind but that's okay. I'll catch up in no time :) Now I'm at Chris's and doing exactly that, catching up. There is an overflowing hibiscus plant filled with pink flowers. It looks like the plant is in a very happy mood because almost every branch has blooms and buds waiting to open. The bright flowers stand out beautifully against the blue sky and the white house, making the whole place look more cheerful and alive. I always admire people who can take good care of flowering plants because it really takes patience and consistency. A blooming hibiscus like this instantly catches attention even from afar. She expressed her eagerness to spend some days with her relatives in south of Kolkata. She has two elder sisters and a younger brother.They have their own children. Though I don't want easily to leave my orphan children, but as they themselves are getting summer holidays I agreed to go with her as she needed a little change and our daughter who has come down from her medical college after the convocation. The doctor child also was in great need of a little outing after her hectic internship months. It was a happy reunion of four siblings and their children. I too had some joyful hours with them and greatly needed rest from my stressful work. One happy twist of interaction led to opening of a door that I had left in disappointment. Three years ago I had tried to help a niece get married. Considering her age in my opinion it was getting late. A hitch popped up and the marriage could not proceed. This time, the niece's mother took a bold step. But oddly, one of her favourite meals is pasta with sauce – and the sauce is a concoction of whatever vegetables are available! It generally includes many things she generally dislikes – onions, peppers, squash, tomatoes, aubergines, courgettes, sweet potatoes… and yet she yums it up. Tomorrow's Wednesday, which means starting another day of work, and also going to church/Bible study tomorrow night. One of my co-workers went to the school that we'll (she, another of our co-workers and I) be working at in the summer. It doesn't sound as nice as our school at all the way she described the grounds and the way the teachers interact with the kids. One of the nicest parts of going there after going to church was feeding the birds with other visitors. It felt peaceful watching them gather around for food while flying freely around the area. We always enjoyed those quiet moments because feeding the birds somehow felt calming and relaxing. The place had a gentle atmosphere that made people slow down and appreciate simple things.
