FAQs - Discussions back to FAQ index How do I start a discussion? Before starting any discussion, search your topic in myLot to make sure you are not duplicating any discussions. We discourage posting discussions that have already been posted. After you have searched your topic, and you find no similar discussions, click "start a new discussion" on the left side of your page. You will then be brought to one of two screens: If you have filled out your interests, you will be given the option of starting a discussion in your "interests" or a "general discussion"(at the bottom of the page). If you have not filled out your interests, you will be given the options of "manage interests" or "general discussion". Click on the preferred box. You will then be brought to the "start a new discussion on myLot" screen. Enter the subject & details of your discussion. Remember myLot loves quality discussions, the more details you provide, the more likely you are to receive responses to your discussion. Once you have completed your discussion, you are given 2 options: "Preview" or "Start Discussion". Click "preview" to check for any spelling or grammatical errors. If you find errors in your discussion click "edit" and you will then be given the opportunity to fix any errors. If you don't find any errors in your discussion click "submit". Remember once your discussion is submitted, you are not allowed to fix any errors in the discussion. You will then be brought to a "add tags to this discussion" page. At this time, you will submit tags or words that relate to your discussion. Click here to learn more about our tagging system. Click "submit tag(s)" or "skip" and your discussion will appear. How do I respond to a discussion? Simply click on the discussion that you would like to respond to. Before responding to any discussion, read all the other responses and comments first. We discourage posting responses that have already been posted. Click on "respond to this discussion" located below the discussion detail on the right side. Enter your response in the "your response" box. Remember to post quality responses. Once you have completed typing your response, you can either preview your response or post your response. If you choose to preview your response, click "preview response". At this time you can check for any spelling or grammatical errors. If you find errors in your response, click "edit" and this will allow you to fix any errors in your response. Once you have fixed your errors click "post response". If you don't find any errors in your response, click "submit". If you choose not to preview your response, click "post response". Remember once your response is submitted, you are not allowed to fix any errors in the response. You will then be brought to a "add tags to this discussion" page. I posted a discussion that users were responding too, but now it is gone, did it get deleted? If you posted a discussion and it was removed, chances are you violated one of the myLot guidelines. First make sure you search your topic before posting a discussion. All duplicated discussions will be deleted. Next, memorize the guidelines. The more familiar you are with the myLot guidelines, the better quality your discussion will be, and the less likely your discussion will be removed through the moderation process. Where can I view today's top discussions? Where can I view discussions from my interests? Simply click on "discussions" at the top of your home page. Next, click "discussions from my interestss" located on the left hand side of the discussions page. This will bring you to all of the discussions that are related to your interests. How do I find all the new discussions? Simply click on "discussions" at the top of your home page. Next, click "new discussions" located on the left hand side of the discussions page. This will bring you to all of the new discussions. How do I find recent discussions posted? Simply click on "discussions" at the top of your home page. Next, click "recent discussions" located on the left hand side of the discussions page. This will bring you to all of the recent discussions. Where do I find the discussions that I have started? Simply click on "discussions" at the top of your home page. Next, click "discussions I've started" located on the left hand side of the discussions page. This will bring you to all of the discussions that you have posted. Where do I find the discussions that I have responded to? Simply click on "discussions" at the top of your home page. Next, click "discussions I've responded to" located on the left hand side of the discussions page. This will bring you to a page that lists all of the discussions that you have responded to. Where do I find discussions that my friends started? Simply click on "discussions" at the top of your home page. Next, click "discussions my friends started" located on the left hand side of the discussions page. This will bring you to a page that lists all of the discussions that your friends have posted. Where can I find today's hot topics? Simply click on "discussions" at the top of your home page. Next, click "today's hot topics" located on the left hand side of the discussions page. This will bring you to a page that lists all of today's hot topics. What is the point of the discussions with no responses? myLot put all the discussions with no responses in a category to help the users get answers and responses to their discussions. Simply click on "discussions" at the top of your home page. Next, click "discussions with no responses" located on the left hand side of the discussions page. This will bring you to a page that lists all of the discussions that have no responses. Where can I find the new user discussions? Simply click on "discussions" at the top of your home page. Next, click "new user discussions" located on the left hand side of the discussions page. This will bring you to a page that lists all of the discussions posted by new users. What are my unresolved discussions, and how can I resolve them? Your unresolved discussions are discussions that you have not given a best response to. In order to resolve the discussion, you need to choose a best response for the discussion. See below to learn how to choose a best response. What is a Best Response? A best response is a response that is chosen by the myLot member that started a discussion and feels the response that was provided is the best response to their topic of discussion. A best response feature should be utilized by all myLot members. Please help other myLot users know that their responses are useful and helpful. How do I Choose a Best Response? Simply click on "discussions" at the top of your home page. Next, click "my unresolved discussions" located on the left hand side of the discussions page. This will bring you to all of your discussions that you have not chosen a best response for. Click on the discussions that you would like to choose a best response for. Read through each response and chose the response you like the most. Do not select a best response right away, wait at least a week before choosing a best response. This will give myLot users plenty of time to respond to your discussion topic and will give you a variety of responses to choose from. Click on "mark best response" located on the right of the user's username. Once you have done this, your discussion will be resolved. How do I know if a user has selected my response as the best response in their discussion? Simply click on "discussions" at the top of your home page. Next, click "my best responses" located on the left hand side of the discussions page. This will bring you to all of the discussions that your responses that were given "best response" for. I am not receiving any notifications when someone responds to my discussions or when my friend starts a new discussion, why? First off, make sure your notifications are on. To check and see if your friends' notifications are on, click here. To check and see if your discussion response notification is on, click here. Next your account needs to be confirmed. Click here for information regarding your confirmation email. If your account has already been confirmed, log into your email account and make sure myLot emails are not being sent to your junk mail. If you have messages from myLot in your junk mail, click on these emails and click "not spam mail" or "not junk mail". This will eliminate any future emails being sent to your junk mail folder. If you haven't received any emails from myLot, try adding the following email addresses to your personal address book. dailyemail@mylot.com, accounts@myLot.com, discussion@myLot.com. Often times this will allow messages from myLot to get through to your account. If after completing all of these steps you are still having difficulties, please contact us.
