You are doing it. You are being supportive. He has to do the rest. Tell your friend that he has HIV but he's not dead. And he can live for a number of years with it. He has options. The main thing that he has to do is take care of himself. And learn as much about the disease that he can. Tell he to plan on living, not dying. There are many things that he can do to live a happy life.

This is well written and I love your comparisons and contrast between loneliness and solitude. But I would say that there can be a thin line and you don't have to be alone to be lonely. You can be lonely in a crowd. But can you have solitude in a crowd? The desire for solitude can come out of many things. Point well taken, although it could be argued as to how the majority is actually distributed. The 535 people er 536 people that you mention comprise only part of the government. Your head count is way off.
