polaroidsredwine responded to a discussion called sex robot in sex.

Uncanny valley effect on those is horribly strong and rather unsettling ... I would be rather unnerved if I saw one up close ... I think it's a bit interesting, but there's a long way to go before that can replace an actual person. Can't imagine that being a preferred thing at the moment (unless like, someone is into that, in which case, go right on ahead).

polaroidsredwine responded to a discussion called These men are forever alone...... in people.

Oh gosh I remember the first time I saw that documentary ... I didn't have words, frankly. Also, some of those guys should really learn how to do makeup and dress their dolls because whoooo, what are you doing people? Well, it's not like they're hurting anyone by having those. Mostly, I would be a little weirded out, but hey, as long as the guy's happy, I guess? I think there are also male d...

polaroidsredwine responded to a discussion called Are you afraid of Death? in life.
Frankly, I'm more afraid of growing old and becoming a shadow of myself than actually dying. I remember hearing a quote something along the lines of: death is the only fair thing in the world; it comes once for everyone and on its own time. I've never really seen the point in being afraid of death. I mean, yeah, that's the end of 'you' the person, and I guess the inability to leave anything of ...

polaroidsredwine responded to a discussion called Weight loss incentives in weight loss.
Having incentives is a great thing! Rewarding yourself for reaching goals can really help you stick to whatever plan you're following. Part of losing weight is also figuring out how to make it something you enjoy, so you can keep it up as a lifestyle - if you don't make lifestyle changes, then there's a big chance you'll just rebound and regain the weight you lost. When you start to enjoy wh...

polaroidsredwine responded to a discussion called Cuckoo birds in questions & answers.

The cuckoo hatchlings also tend to eat all the food so the other chicks in the nest will die ... but hey, they're cute and I can't say I don't like the sound of a cuckoo bird.

polaroidsredwine responded to a discussion called Woman dies after abortion in condo clinic.
The entire article is rather vague ... understandable, I guess, in order to keep it as objective as possible, but the lack of details doesn't give much to help me form any opinion on the matters. If the woman wanted the abortion, then I won't fault her for her choice - and if I understand the matter, abortions are illegal there, correct? Those are always far riskier than legal ones just because...

polaroidsredwine responded to a discussion called People you can't relate in people.
If you can't be yourself, socializing is no fun. The trick is to test the waters, join in when you can, and slowly let yourself become more comfortable around them. It's kind of hard when you don't really have much in common at first. Actually, at most of my jobs, I never really spoke to my coworkers that often - we were friendly enough, but I was more focused on my work than anything else. ...

polaroidsredwine commented in a discussion called When can abortion be justified? in relationships.
Aah, I jumped in late, but uhh ... So, that person I mentioned, she went on to have three kids. Three kids, right? She kept two. She put one up for adoption - her brother and sister in law adopted the third one, see, because the in laws were unable to have a child of their own, and at this point in the woman's life, she and her husband were unable to afford a third child. And this is a pe...

polaroidsredwine commented in a discussion called When can abortion be justified? in relationships.

Thing is, the Bible doesn't really have any solid view on abortion in it ... any passages cited are flimsy at best, and even then, there's the problem of letting the Bible be used as a reason to make laws. That's unfair to people who aren't of a religion that follows the Bible, or to people who have no religion at all.

I'd be genuinely weirded out and refuse to be around it ... anything uncanny valley-ish needs to stay far, far away from me.

Cleaning: a neverending struggle

I swear, I've been devotedly working to get my house in tip-top shape the last few days, yet it seems every time that I wake up the next day, the entire place is back to the state it was the day...

Giving respect

I'm of the firm opinion that when you meet someone it's, of course, courtesy to give them at least a minimum amount of respect, and any further respect I give them is earned (likewise, I'd at least...

Little fears

I ended up taking a nap just before it started to get dark, and when I woke up it was dark out. I was laying just under the window, and since it was pitch-black out, I couldn't see anything, and...

The power of tears, or - how to get your job back, apparently

I got fired from my last job from making too many mistakes. Okay, I can accept that. It was kind of crushing because I was really hoping to keep it since I was in dire need of the money (go figure,...

And then she broke my window.

Sound doesn't wake me up when I'm sleeping. I'm practically impervious to it since I've lived near train tracks and had construction going on far too close to me, so I've just learned to sleep...
