Have you ever taken a bath in a galvanized tub?

Bathing In a Galvanized Tub - image showing children playing/bathing in a galvanized tub just like in the old days when some people had no indoor plumbing.

When my brother and I were kids and visited both sets of our grandparents we had to take a bath every Saturday night whether we needed it or not. We had to be clean to go to Church on Sunday. However, neither of them had indoor plumbing so we had to take our baths in the kitchen in a galvanized tub. Water was heated in a space on the back of the petroleum stove. We had a lot of fun....it is one of life experiences that I will never forget. Actually the tub was also used to wash clothes during the week and a swimming pool on hot days. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

How strange. What exactly is that? It is not something like jacuzzi right? Then no.. I have only tried a normal tub, jacuzzi, those in steam rooms, and my plain shower.

Apparently you are much younger than we are. Check out the pick that was loaded with this post It is simply a big round or square metal tub. Not a jacuzzi tub or anywhere close to be being one. Not terribly big and you had to heat the water to fill the tub So it was also time consuming and a royal pain in the butt. They were used when people did not have indoor plumbing or running water in the house. So yes it goes back quite awhile. Guess that makes me like an antique LOL Wendy

I don't have much left to comment on...wendy did my job for me. You might also see a galvanized tub as a pail/bucket which is a little taller and wider.. Always nice to see you your grace.

I remember the old wash tub used for other things. My mother was the one that would remember the wash tub/laundry tub/misc used tub. My grandmother used it for everything.

You are too young to have used it, especially if you lived where there was running water and inside plumbing. In the 20th century I believe they were only used in rural areas. I remember that the water supply was from springs....not supplied by the town or city. It makesa difference. Always nice to see you elusive.

Yeah they were fun and yeah we're dating ourselves..... I our sister was younger than we were and I don't recall her in the tub. I remember when my Dad came home with one of them tubs filled with cooked shrimp....I remember because I had to help shell em. Was in the days we we had little meat because it was rationed. My mother used to have a zillion receipes for shrimp.....my favoriets was shrimp stew and strimp wiggle. Thanks for dropping by and for you input. PS: checked your profile and see that you got a way to go to reach my age.....have as much fun as I did....it's all down hill know but I'm still in the fast lane with no grass growing under my feet.
