Something very exciting is about to happen in my neighborhood, in fact just two blocks from me! Chart Topping Productions Inc. of Toronto will be filming a television movie about famous French-Canadian singer, Celine Dion on April 20 and 21. This is very exciting for two reasons. First of all, the City of Hamilton has hosted a number of film shoots over the past couple of years and is quickly becoming known a the film capital of the north. Secondly, I love Celine Dion's music. She is famous for such songs as "My Heart Will Go On" featured in "The Titanic, At Last, Because You Loved Me" and her most recent hit, "I'm Alive." I have several of her CDs and listen to them often. As I'm sure you already know, this shy young girl is now a fixture in Las Vegas where she presents regular performances. I and all Canadians are so very proud of her. According to a note placed in my mailbox this morning, "Celine" is "a story about the power to dream. Raised in a musical family, Celine Dion is the youngest of 14 children. The family did not have much, but they had their music. Celine has a voice that shines above the rest. After the family pub burned down, 12-year-old Celine began to pursue her dream to become the most famous singer in the world. With the help of her agent, Rene Angelil, she began the long hard road to success." According to her official web site, Celine was born in Charlemane, just east of Montreal, Quebec. She began singing at the age of 5 with her family. When she was 12, she composed a French song that changed her life forever. Rene was so taken by her demo tape that he decided to represent her. He even mortgaged his house to pay for Celine's debut album. In 1982, she won the Gold Medal at the Yamaha World Song Festival in Tokyo and in 1983, she became the first Canadian to receive a Gold Record in France. She is now an international superstar performing in Las Vegas where she lives with husband Rene and their young son. Celine has been called the premier contemporary pop vocalist of the '50s and has earned music industry accolades from the Grammy (U.S.), Juno and Felix Awards (Canada) to the World Music Awards in Europe.
