I listen to HAPPY music when I'm down. If it's too heavy or depressing, my mood will continue to decline.

i agree with this very much. My mood tends to follow the music i choose. Happy, up and loud music can lift my mood

When I'm feeling down I usually listen to slow music, when I'm feeling good or optimistic I always listen to faster music

You're not odd.
I also like to pump up the volume when i'm listening to music, regardless my state of mind. When i'm down, i listen to all kinds of music, can be alternative or sad slow melodies...

hey thats great. For me the sadder i feel the louder i like it, it seems to lift me but ive heard others talk of slow sad music to match their mood, well for me this doesnt work

Well some people say that I am weird for this but when I am in a down mood I usually listen to music that makes me even more upset! They are usually slow songs, some that reminds me of the situation I'm in thats making me upset.
But nope you aren't odd, that sounds normal to me =) it should be normal to want to listen to music that makes you happier rather than down.

You're not odd at all. I listen to classical music when I am thinking and pop/rock when I'm in a mood were I need to liven up or cheer up. I listen to country the most but that is just because I like it. Then I have the cds that are kind of sad for my sad times and the sweet/romantic songs for when I'm in that mood.
