What about products for the mom. Relaxing bath salts, massage oils, candles, stuff like that..She might not have that much time to use them right away but she'll think of you when she does get to and probably really appreciate it. I bought my sister a baby scrapbook so that she could start recording moments and then later on be able to put it into a scrapbook for her daughter. or even a foot massager(foot bath) If it's a close friend you could give a coupon from you saying you'll babysit for a few hours one night so she can go out...Just some ideas for yah.

As a second time mom, I think what I really wanted but never got was a couple of movie tickes (gift cards), and an offer of free babysitting for the night. As a second time mom, you really do not have much time to your self, or to your husband, and it can be difficult to find the time to nurture the marriage/relationship.

Clothes, blankets, booties, all the typical things you'd buy for a first time Mom. Same goes for third, fourth, fifth, and so on. It's nice that new children get some new items, instead of only hand-me-downs from the older generations. Failing that, how about getting a gift for MOM? Give her a gift card for the cafe, for a little MOM time when she needs it, or a gift certificate from a baby store?

Well if you want a gift for the mom, a gift certificate to her favorite gym, or favorite clothing store, because if she's like most moms, it will take her much longer to lose the wieght than she's expecting. I know with my first, I lost it all w/in 6 months, My second child is now 7 months and I still have 20 pounds to lose! If you want something for the baby, get a blanket with the baby's name on it, something that won't be a handmedown and will be specifically for that baby. I know that's what bothered me the most the second time around, especially since I have two boys, I felt like my youngest got a little gyped because we didnt' go out and buy him a ton of new things.

I would give a gift certificate for a massage or maybe tickets to a movie or dinner out and then offer free babysitting to go along with it. I have some friends that really loved getting a basket of bath salts and soaps, to give themselves a lift.
