I had Chinese food this weekend and had a very interesting fortune in my cookie... "One of the keys to happiness is a bad memory?" I found this a very deep thought provoking saying...what are your thoughts on this? Have you had any interesting fortunes or ones that were dead on for you or made you laugh? Feel free to share them here. My husband's was "Someone can read your mind" Anyone who has read my discussions will know how funny that one is! :)

I really like the fortune cookie you got. That is so true "One of the keys to happiness is a bad memory? If you can't get over that one bad thing that happened, it will keep cropping up, and as such negates the chance of happiness. One bad memory is all it takes to stop enlightenment! I'm not sure all fortune cookies are as profound as this one, and if it doesn't relate to you, it certainly can for me. Thanks for the thread.

Thank you for your insight into this... It does make sense to me and that is kind of what my Mother-in-law thought that it meant. It is true, Bad memories can keep you in a mental rut with an inability to move forward!!! It's all called Depression!

Thanks heavenschild for the best response. I've had my fair share of depressive states. For the deep thinker here's a big key. Depression is not caused by sadness, it is our own inability to keep moving forward, instead we are held back by those bad memories. We have all this energy to do many things and yet that voice comes in and talks us into not doing it because something will go wrong.

To me, this means that we'll never get on with our lives, if we keep remembering the bad things in our past. Sometimes, it's easier said than done. Actually, I've just looked up some old fortunes I've held onto, but the one I'd hoped to find isn't among them. Not long before I was married (many years ago now), my bridal party took me out for dinner before the wedding. We went to a Chinese restaurant. When I got my fortune, it said something like, "a gown, veil, cake, and flowers are in your immediate future." We couldn't believe it, and I still don't understand how this happened!

Ironic...That's all I can say about your fortune! I've come to learn that just like in life, not every thing can be explained! Somtimes we have to just take things as they come in life! (Good or Bad) Boy, I just realized in reading over what I just wrote that this would make a good cookie fortune! LOL Ironic!!

My husband and I have this terrible habit of adding "in bed" to the end of every fortune cookie. I read your posting as "one of the keys to happiness is a bad memory in bed" and I couldn't stop laughing. My hubby read it and said that is sooooooooooo true. Then he looked at me and asked how my memory was!! Anyways. I think the best fortune I ever got was "A good mother loves completely. You are destined to love with all your soul." I got that one the day I took my pregnancy test with my little boy. It turns out, that sometimes those fortunes come true. :)
